Summary: Another reviewer gave this drive only 2 Stars and complained that it was too slow to install Windows 7 on. Well, DUH ! Read Seagate's description - it's intended for use as video storage in a DVR-type situation. And it can stream several recorded programs at once! That's what you pay for, plus it's intended to run 24/7 unlike a regular PC hard drive, OK?
Summary: I bought a "used, like new" from the warehouse and it had almost 2 years of 24-hours-a-day usage according to CrystalDisk. NOT like new; I returned it...it may be the used one for sale... Buyer beware.
Summary: THE GOOD: This drive runs very cool, is quiet, and is designed to run 24x7 under harsh conditions (Seagate says it is rated to operate for prolonged periods of time at up to 75 degrees C). THE BAD So slow that it's almost unusable as anything other than a secondary drive for storing content. You really don't want to put Windows 7 on this thing. Trust me.
Summary: I bought this to replace my Humax FoxT2 pvr drive which had been causing problems due I think to my storing multi, single news items (archived). Although only half the drive was full, the on board Humax software couldn't cope and created inumerable problems with recording of programmes and pure operating issues like replay stopping in the first 50 secs etc. As it turned out the replacement 1tb Seagate Pipeline HD ST31000322CS drive was the same model.
Summary: I installed the drive into my Humax Freesat recorder. I followed instructions on Youtube, which were really clear & simple. The process took circa 15 minutes. I installed the old 360g drive into a caddy & then attached it via the USb port into the back of the humax drive - Simple... The new drive is very quiet, quick & works perfectly! The drive, arrived on time & was safely packaged.
Summary: I installed this into my Thomson Sky HiDef box. Replaced a 300GB one. This one is quieter than the Seagate I had. Seems to handle data better as well. The old drive would lock up intermittently especially if recording 2 hi def channels and watching a recording at the same time. Well worth the money and an excellent investment.
Summary: I bought one of these to replace a 300GB drive with a 1TB drive for my Samsung SkyHD box and boy does it perform. Fitting incidentally is easy, if you can replace a hard drive in a PC then you can replace one in a Sky Box. The drive works well with the new style planner and for anyone wanting further in depth information on carrying out this activity there are lots of online information available. So what difference has this drive made?
