Less than 3 years old, 2 out of 3 failed

David H., Newegg
  • Summary: Not really sure if I should replace it with another Seagate. Will probably shop around.
  • Pros: I bought 3 drives for a FreeNAS system in 2013. Good value/price.
  • Cons: Replacing the second of the 3 already. They worked well when in there, but that seems like a high failure rate to me.

Mary A., Newegg
25 October 2014
  • Pros: Great drive for what i paid. was delivered on time. i have it in my NAS and i am liking it alread
  • Cons: I gave 3 stars becuase, the drive i bought said max speed of 6.0Gb/s but my NAS detects drive as max speed of 3Gbs. i had an old drive that read 6Gb/s so i know is not my NAS.

Good...if it works

Justin K., Newegg
7 October 2014
  • Summary: Since I bought these to store personal photos/videos I need a drive that is reliable, but I probably wouldn't purchase these again with the reliability I have experienced. They have a great capacity, but it doesn't mean anything if the drive fails.
  • Pros: This drive is great when it works. I got two of these for a mirror setup for all my photos/videos. The drives are plenty fast and 3TB is a nice capacity for media. The price was right when I bought them.
  • Cons: I had one drive fail on me about a week after purchase. Newegg handled the replacement flawlessly, but having a failure is still a pain. The replacement drive has been working for about 5 months, but just recently disappeared from my drives (Windows 7 system). I am going to keep an eye on it but ...

50/50

Eric S., Newegg
21 November 2013
  • Summary: I am returning the bad drive and will replace with the same brand.
  • Pros: The one that works is great. Quiet and high speed.
  • Cons: One 3TB reads as a 4TB and will not initialize.

DOA issues

James M., Newegg
7 October 2013
  • Summary: While I can't say much for the reliability of these disks, I have nothing but good things to say about Newegg and how they've handled the issues. They are top notch!
  • Pros: In theory they should be great for my needs
  • Cons: But I don' t know because one of the two disks I ordered [to run as a mirror] was DOA. Then the one Newegg sent as a replacement was also DOA. [2 out of 3 doa so far]

High Fly Writes

Mark R., Newegg
7 August 2013
  • Summary: It would be nice to know what Seagate consider are the SMART codes to worry about. Searching suggests this could be a hardware issue.
  • Pros: Finally Seagate have competition to WD's RED drives (of which I have 4.)
  • Cons: I'm a little concerned that the drive I received may fail sooner rather than later - during the rebuild of my RAID the High Fly Writes raw value kept increasing, ending up at 24: # smartctl -a /dev/sdb | grep High_Fly_Writes 189 High_Fly_Writes 0x003a 076 076 000 Old_age Always - 24

A good, affordable drive

Dave Cunningham, Amazon
17 July 2013
  • Summary: This is a good, large-capacity hard drive for use in NAS (Network Attached Storage) scenarios. I have this drive in a Windows Home Server machine that runs 24/7. The 3TB capacity is great for this situation, and its 64MB cache helps for faster cached reads as well.

Why you need a NAS...but probably not this one REVISED

G. Ware Cornell Jr. "anotherlawyer", Amazon
27 June 2013
  • Summary: We have passed the point where families and small businesses have but one computer. The need for a personal network either at home or in a small office has never been greater. In a world of options for data storage from the external like my favorite WD My Book Live Duo 6TB Personal Cloud Storage NAS...

Over een harde schijf kan je op korte termijn niets zeggen.

Nick van der Beek, computerstore.nl
10 August 2015
  • Summary: Het is een harde schijf....

  • Pros: betrouwbaar
