Summary: DOA, unfortunately. The drive failed to initialize in two different Windows PCs (GPT or MBR) and with a PartedMagic Live CD. Seatools for Windows crashed on both Windows PCs, and failed to find the drive with the Seatools Live (DOS) CD.
Summary: Out-of-box failure. Threw in Synology NAS to repair RAID 5 array, only to have boot failure. Finally pulled the drive and NAS booted in degraded mode. Checked out drive with SeaTools and a ton of bad sectors found.
Summary: The price is nice, but I have 2-3 times the failure rate with Seagate drives vs Western Digital. I have a 5 drive RAID6 with Seagate spindles at home, and two 4-drive arrays at work. Over the warranty term, I had 9 replacements on the work array. At home, I've replaced all but one drive.
Excerpt: either they work or they don't. Out of the 4 purchased 2/50% were DOA. Scan were very good about replacing the dead ones which is extremely useful. however this is not isolated as i purchased 2 last year and one was DOA then as well. if they pass the initial power up they seem fine.
