Pros: First it’s important to note that this drive is “Optimized for 24x7 video surveillance systems”. What does this tell you? It tells you that it is optimized for sequential and continuous writing and play back. If anyone gives it bad ratings for being slow as a general application drive it’s because they didn’t know enough to understand what it was they were buying. This is a great drive for “brute” storage, of pictures, videos, or just files you want to keep around but...
Pros: I received a bare "OEM" drive, as I would expect based on the description. You too will receive no cables, or any software, but that is OK. Seagate makes drive installation easy with Seatools that you can download for free from their site and run on a USB stick or burn to CD/DVD media.
Pros: This sucker works better than the 7k drives. I have streamed off of it to two targets with transcoding, as well as video editing. If it works for multi tasking, then Samsung is doing that part right.
Cons: 1. This one is a HUGE one. The warranty is less than the standard 50 year electronic warrant. This means, Seagate has no faith in this product.
Pros: low cost. Customer service is fast and actually have English speaking people from USA helping you with little to no hold time. Replaced my entire set of 4 drives after 4 failures with a entirely different model line of drives. I have not yet received nor used those different drives, so I cannot report how the perform.
Cons: I purchased 4 in July of 2012. Between August and February 4 of the drives have went bad. The first two went bad individually. The second two went bad close enough together that it interrupted my raid; causing a failure. Ultimately I had to pay data recovery services a large amount of money to retrieve the lost raid set.
