Summary: I don't write reviews but I feel forced to do it this time because users should be warned. I bought this as a replacement drive for my Macbook White (Late 2009) and I must admit that after two weeks you really notice the overall performance improvement in your computer (much less beach ball twirling.) However, after one month of using it I can say one thing: be careful! My battery performance was reduced by approximately 50%.
Summary: I have a Dell XPS-17 with 14GB of RAM and the 3GB video card - With dual 750 Momentus XT drives spinning at 7200rpm, my system rated at 7.2 under Win7, but that dropped to 5.9 after adding dual ST1000LM014's as these are spinning at 5200rpm. I was surprised that the difference was significant (and noticable), but I needed the additional space and have bit-the-bullet.
Summary: Used as the main drive in my Gaming rig but doesn't have the power to keep games running. I have decent specs but games freeze after an hour or two - likely because this drive can't take the stress. Will be upgrading to an SSD soon enough I'm sure, but for office use, it's a pretty decent compromise.
Summary: This drive will certainly increase the boot time of your laptop. MIne went from two minutes to well under 30 seconds booting into Windows 7. And yes, other programs may well boot quicker also. However, don't expect it to speed up your PC other than starting programs quicker because it won't.
Summary: I bought this thinking that the 64mb cache was something other than the solid state portion. In my research I read that Seagate Hybrid drives typically have 8gb solid state portion, this hard drive has only 64mb. I recommend buying a real Hybrid SSHD Laptop SSHD - Hybrid-Festplatte - 1 TB (8 GB Flash) , same brand, same Storage Capacity, Better Performance and CHEAPER
Summary: Drive was ordered for replacement of a drive in a defective Apple Laptop. Not my equipment so I will not have day to day experience of the product. It arrived on time, was as advertised, and worked when installed. Seems fast and quiet but with an item like this only time and experience will tell.
Summary: Background I originally got a Seagate/Samsung 1tb, that arrived faulty, then I tried a Hitachi 1tb that was so noisy it had to also be faulty. Then I tried one of these. The first one had 2 issues, the first issue was clicking/crackling geiger counter noise which I recorded, sent to Seagate and they said I should replace it.
Summary: To be clear the model number of this item is ST1000LM014. As detailed at http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/internal-hard-drives/laptop-hard-drives/laptop-solid-state-hybrid-drive/?sku=ST1000LM014, one can see that the spindle RPM is 5400 rather than 7200 of the 750GB version. Also note that this specific item on Amazon comes with 8GB cache rather than 64.
