Summary: Run from this drive. I bought 5 of these to populate a home server 2 years ago. When the first failed I bought another for a total of 6 purchased. It failed as well as 4 additional hard drives; the most recent one died last week. Only one of the Barracuda's is still running.
Excerpt: I bought five of these drives for a Drobo RAID setup and after just over a year all but one of them have had to be replaced under warranty apart from the one that failed this week, which is now out of warranty. An 80% failure rate is totally unacceptable.
Excerpt: Bought a 2TB Baraccuda drive. About 9 months later it failed (clicking noise then startup then stop and more clicking noises). Seagate sent me a replacement refurbished drive under warranty. It failed after 1 week. Seagate sent me a replacement new drive under warranty.
Summary: Ok, I've been using Seagate drives for more than 15 years. They never let me down and I was happy (until recently). I even still have a couple of barracudas from 2004 (more than 10 years). Looks like the good story ends. I bought 3 1.5TB drives to use them in NAS.
Summary: I purchased 4 of these drives on 6.3.2013. (Mistake 1: buying 4 drives from the same lot.). The drives were installed in a 4 disc RAID 5 array. (Mistake 2: Using RAID 5 instead of RAID 10) On 8.24.14 one of the drives failed.
