  • Summary: Luckily a tech tipped me off, before it was too late. I returned this item and did not even bother to install it based on what I learned. Just Google “Hard drive failure rates” or “Most reliable hard drive” before you purchase.

Poor reliability. EOL much too soon.

  • Summary: I purchased 4 of these drives on 6.3.2013. (Mistake 1: buying 4 drives from the same lot.). The drives were installed in a 4 disc RAID 5 array. (Mistake 2: Using RAID 5 instead of RAID 10) On 8.24.14 one of the drives failed. A new (different brand) drive was installed and the RAID began rebuilding the array. Unfortunately, another drive failed during the rebuild (2 of the 4 dead within 24 hrs).

Near Death On Arrival

MetaK,, TigerDirect.com
12 May 2014
  • Summary: it failed after less than a week of use after being in the same dual HDD enclosure with a WD Caviar Black drive which was bought at the same time and used the same. I guess I should have seen it coming because when using HDD Regenerator and Active Boot Disk before formatting, ABD indicated that the disk was only 51% healthy out of the box. Should've known HDD R couldn't save it.

Got two bad drives in a row!

Danny,, TigerDirect.com
18 March 2014
  • Summary: I received my first drive in a very timely manner, tested the drive and couldn't get it to stay connected to any computer I owned for more than 20 seconds at a time. RMA'd the drive and received another in about a week's time, this one was also bad so I requested a refund.

Shortest lived HD I've ever had.

J. Ratoff, Amazon

  • Summary: Died in 20 months; then Seagate tried to claim it was out of warrantee. Luckily, the receipt from Amazon clearly showed that I hadn't had the drive past the two-year warrantee period. Do not buy.

  • Summary: I have other Seagate drives and have had no problem formatting them for Windows 7. You just go into disc management, and it recognizes all 3TB. My system wouldn't do that for this drive. It wouldn't allow me to create a 3TB partition.
