Excerpt: I bought five of these drives for a Drobo RAID setup and after just over a year all but one of them have had to be replaced under warranty apart from the one that failed this week, which is now out of warranty. An 80% failure rate is totally unacceptable.
Summary: Luckily a tech tipped me off, before it was too late. I returned this item and did not even bother to install it based on what I learned. Just Google “Hard drive failure rates” or “Most reliable hard drive” before you purchase.
Excerpt: Bought a 2TB Baraccuda drive. About 9 months later it failed (clicking noise then startup then stop and more clicking noises). Seagate sent me a replacement refurbished drive under warranty. It failed after 1 week. Seagate sent me a replacement new drive under warranty.
Summary: Ok, I've been using Seagate drives for more than 15 years. They never let me down and I was happy (until recently). I even still have a couple of barracudas from 2004 (more than 10 years). Looks like the good story ends. I bought 3 1.5TB drives to use them in NAS.
