Excerpt: Bought on Apr 2014 from Staples.com, died a few days ago. The hard drive makes rapid short sounds when start the laptop. After I replaced this 1TB broken Seagate Momentus hard drive with new hard drive, the laptop can work now. I put the broken Seagate Momentus hard drive into a external hard drive case to try to restore the data. After turn on the hard drive, it still make rapid short sounds and can not be recognized by computer.
Summary: When I "installed" this drive on my Windows 8 laptop as an external drive (in an external case also purchased from Amazon), the laptop recognized the device, but I could not access the drive. Same thing on my Windows 7 primary desktop. I tried to format the new drive, but could not do so on either the laptop or my primary desktop. I finally plugged it in to another Win 7 desktop with no other external devices, and was able to see the drive and successfully format it.
Summary: I bought it in June 2012. Everything worked great until it died this month (April 2013). After having it diagnosed it only have 4% health remaining so I will be lucky to have my data transferred onto a new HDD. I will go with Western Digital this time.
Summary: I guess the jury is still out on this one. Had the hard drive installed in my laptop by a computer tech. Worked for approx 5 days and DOA. Now I'm without a laptop again. Seller states I have to pay the shipping costs to send it back. They will refund my purchase price. Have to order another drive. Maybe I just got the one that was made in China on Monday or Friday or whenever their end of the work week is.
Summary: Exactly what my Macbook Pro needed. Installed easily and after a month of use no troubles or issues. Great product. ****Review Update Oct. 11, 2013**** It seems that this drive has become unstable after a few months use. About once a week I am finding that I have to repair the disk in order to get it to work properly again.
Summary: While I hadn't purchased this HDD separately, it did come bundled in an ASRock 330HT NetTop I had purchased just before Christmas. With no warning or errors, the HDD has suddenly crashed, and various attempts to repair the OS fail. I have since begun replacement RMA steps with the vendor. After some research I found this HDD also comes with many Macbooks, and if you Google you will find similar failings across the board.
Summary: Install on Dell D630. Found out that it's noisy with clicking noise and a bit of vibration. After two hours of use, I returned this hard drive. A better alternative is Hitachi Travelstar 2.5" 320gb 7200 rpm.
