Summary: Noy as expensive as an SSD and having almost 85% of its speed, as long as they dont get cheaper, Hybrid disks are the perfect balance on speed and space. IF you have the money go for an SSD, if you need lots of space go for HDD. One tip: start making less space and moving your documents to the cloud as the future looks small in space in exchange of speed.
Pros: Got it on discount. Works like new. Boots fast.
Cons: I was somewhat afraid to purchase a refurbished HDD in the event something got messed up and was unnoticed i didn't want to deal with the return process, but I could not beat the price. Works great thus far.
Summary: When I compare this SSHD rated at 7200 rpm with my other SSHD rated at 5400 rpm I could not detect any difference. Just my observation and not a scientific or lab-based comparison.
Pros: Somewhat leery about buying a refurb drive because I've been burnt before. So far, not on this one. I bought this at Newegg when there was add'l discount and free-shipping. Installed it on a Dell Latitude E4300 and loaded Windows 8.1 64-bit. I was able to configure AHCI on setup and Windows recognized it as a new drive. The old drive was an older SATA 7200 rpm and configured as IDE. The speed gained and overall performance was impressive. And with 500GB the increased ...
Cons: It's a refurb product and makes me uneasy about it. But more of a peace of mind factor that anything else.
Summary: The warranty is listed as being 90 days on the NewEgg site. However, when I keyed in the serial number at the Seagate site it listed the warranty as being valid until April 23, 2014 which is more like 6 months warranty.
Pros: Drive contains 4 GB of flash memory along with 32 MB of cache memory. As the drive operates it stores the most frequently used applications in the flash memory making some things super fast. The most frequently used files would include those things that are used each time the machine boots up so eventually the machine will boot up very quickly. The regular cache is used with the conventional drive making it respond much like any other 7200 RPM drive.
Summary: This drive was purchased to replace an existing one in effort to: 1) increase performance; and 2) increase available disk space. After getting the image restored from the original drive and working with it for a week or so, the performance is noticeably better (and more disk space is available too, obviously). I prefer Seagate over other brands since I hardly have to return them compared to other brands (mostly WD). They're also quieter drives too.
