No difference in access speed

Summary: I originally purchased because of the reviews but after having for a year I see no difference in performance than a standard HDD. Bench marks showed no difference either. Would not recommend. But seeing that this item is sold out now guest it does not make much difference now. Bought two other one was dead out of package.
Summary: This drive shines under the right conditions but not all. The ideal application for this is a laptop with (a) a single drive slot available (b) an SSD too expensive or unavailable for the storage requirements (c) use of a single operating system on the laptop by the same user all the time with fairly predictable usage (d) not much multitasking especially accessing large files. (e) no frequent whole disk backups.
Summary: The original review is below. The negative initial warranty experience was also shared by others as reported in comments. But, the important parts to read are the updates at the end which explain the current 5 star rating. My eventual outcome was positive. I hope the review with updates are helpful to potential seagate purchasers.
Summary: When I bought this SSHD I did not expect an SSD performance "even though seagate website claims that it has same performance as an SSD" but i was expecting more of a superior improvement from the 1TB 5400 RPM WD drive that I had but the improvement is technically minimal most of the time, this hard drive has an adaptive memory meaning that the hard drive will move the apps you use the most to the flash memory for quicker access and that actually is a good thing when it...
Summary: I had a 320GB version of this drive running well in lightly used laptop. When I migrated all data from a heavily used laptop with VMware partition into this 500GB Momentus XT drive, had system lockup within hours of starting Vmware. Hmm, migrated same installation to 320GB Momentus XT and get same problem. Using Travelstar no problems. Did firmware update to 320GB, the FW updater doesn't work with the newer fw in 500GB.
Pros: boots faster and gave me so much more hard drive space
Cons: within 2 months, it was starting to slow down in booting and backups were taking longer to accomplish even though the total amount of data had not increased; before I could get a replacement drive before 3 months of age, it failed to boot
Hesitant from neg. reviews. Bought anyways. After some work, it now seems to function correctly

Summary: I have been using this drive for about a month now, and just now today seem to have ironed out all the quirks and kinks. My first mistake was to assume that since this drive's been out for a while that all the negative reviews and accompanying solutions had already been implemented by Seagate. I was wrong apparently.
Summary: I bought this drive to replace the older 500gb model I had in my MacBook pro. Everything was fine for a few weeks then I started getting applications crashing at random. Safari at first then other apps, mail etc. this started to increase from once a week to every other hour or so. I then got os/x system halted errors, I check the drive with several tools all seemed to be fine inspite of the increased errors.
Summary: The first one I received started to develop a click and chirp noise along with freezing my laptop basically from the moment I installed it. If it didn't chirp then it worked great. I didn't even have it as my boot drive just had a few gigs on it before it became virtually unusable. Seagate diagnostics showed the disk as defective.
Summary: 6 months ago I went to the Chicago store and bought 3 of these hard drives. at first I loved them and was glad I spent the money. then I started having issues with my raid and assumed that it was the way I set it up so once a week I was checking my raid it kept telling me that 2 of the 3 hard drives were out of sync.
