Works

Richard D., Newegg
3 June 2015
  • Pros: Works Taking 2 eggs off for poor packaging.
  • Cons: Very poor packaging: The drive was loose in a box with some bubble wrap thrown on top of it. Come one newegg....I will keep an eye on the drive, hope there was no damage. Not as fast as my WD Black Under SATA 3Gb/s WD Black Stats: Sequential Read : 182.934 MB/s Sequential Write : 172.577 MB/s Ran...

User Review

Rod R., Newegg
3 February 2015
  • Summary: I bought this drive unaware that it was a self encrypting drive which is able to lock itself and there is no way to access the drive. You cannot read, write or do anything and commercial software will not erase, format, delete nor work on this drive once it locks up.
  • Pros: Good for Business or Server as this drive is a self encrypting drive which keeps all information secure but I would not recommend this drive for personal or home users.
  • Cons: This drive can lock up by itself rendering it useless.

Rock Solid

Michael K., Newegg
24 December 2014
  • Pros: Solid hard drive with above average speed. It should outlast every component in my build. It is packed in a clam shell.
  • Cons: Giving it three eggs due to the fact my hard drive was basically loose in a fairly large box. Newegg put 8 inflatable bags in the box but 7 were flat. The clam shell has abrasive edges which most likely caused the punctures in the packing bags. I honestly did not expect it to spin up but it did.

Seagate is good so far

Emmanuel C., Newegg
2 January 2014
  • Pros: The package arrived on time. It is a very large HD. My computer detected the HD with 1.81 Capacity out of the 2 TB.
  • Cons: I don't know if this is good but my HD Tune health detected yellow status on the (0A) Spin Retry count and and B8 (unknown attritube). Does this mean its a defective product?

An inauspicious start

Dwight P., Newegg
19 December 2013
  • Summary: Ordered Enterprise class drives as the OS/Program drives in a server mostly due to their speed and longer warranty. Higher Priced Enterprise Drive + Early Failure + General pain in the patoot to RMA the drive + Having to pay shipping to replace defective product = Disgruntled Customer.
  • Pros: Large Cache. Good Spindle Speed. Long Warranty.
  • Cons: Of two ordered and placed into service as part of an array in a server, one has failed already. Any drive can fail, but expected better from higher priced enterprise class drive. -1 egg for early failure. -1 egg for having to pay shipping to replace a defective product (see other thoughts).

Migraine maker

Ed D., Newegg
10 September 2013
  • Summary: If you clone to get this drive operational a SSD works as a source but weaker drives cause it to stop. This drive in no way can compare to the speed of a SSD.
  • Pros: Beautifully shipped ( Plenty of padding ) I have several drives from Seagate- Seagate is reliable
  • Cons: This drive has nearly been impossible to format or clone. It has taken multiple tricks and reconfigurations to get to "Current status" It failed repeatedly leaving error messages on a blue screen.

Runs Hot?

Donald Z., Newegg
15 June 2013
  • Summary: Will ask Seagate about this.
  • Pros: Passed Seagate diagnostic tests.
  • Cons: Just ran basic tests on this drive using an external eSata docking station. Drive temp was up to 40C. I know that max. temp on this drive is 60C, but 40C seems high for outside the case with half the drive exposed to air temp and light usage?

Wondering about Seagate

A Reader "retired scientist", Amazon
25 March 2013
  • Summary: I have had a rash of failures with Seagate Drives over the past few years. Seagate has a good warrenty, but the data is lost. Am going to try some other brand in the future. Problem is "Made in China". Unfortunately China's QC is lacking and electronic products have a high failure rate.
