Not the right product

Nicholas C., Newegg
4 March 2015
  • Summary: I did by this on sale and it was cheaper than the 2TB but i wish i would have got what i paid for.
  • Pros: Works Great, Does its job for a hard disk drive. no complaints on this part.
  • Cons: didn't receive what i ordered. i ordered this refurbished 3TB hard drive and instead got a 2TB.

off to a good start

Mr. C., Newegg
21 December 2014
  • Summary: Check the drive thoroughly with Seatools. Run the long test, look at the smart data. A third party smart-data program can show a bit more than Seatools does. Do a long format and look at the chkdsk data afterwards. For my use, the drive gets worked daily for the 90 days of the warranty.
  • Pros: These xxxAS drives have given me long life in the past, and I have more faith in a refurb enterprise drive than a new consumer grade. Newegg has always been great about returns, so even if there's a problem during the 90 day warranty... we're covered (be sure you're buying through newegg).
  • Cons: Way to expensive for a used drive. Yes, they call it refurbished but there's only a 90 day warranty. We don't know if it's a good working system pull, with it's s.m.a.r.t. data reset or a repaired warranty return. It could have 2k or 28k hours on it. Mind you, this is the 2nd one I've purchased b...

So far, so good...

John C., Newegg
15 May 2014
  • Pros: With email promo code this drive cost me $.028 a GB, so could not resist. Have used this one month now and so far so good with no conflicts or slowdowns noticed. Have seen several reviews indicating this last-gen XT series still outperforms ST-series 1GB platters. Will update review if/when neces...
  • Cons: The warranty on this drive is good till September 2014, and varies from drive to drive, it's based on the original date of manufacture. Otherwise time will tell.

Seems to work just fine.

David N. Moore, Amazon
12 April 2014
  • Summary: Bought this about a month ago. Took a couple of weeks to get it all set up since I didn't have enough sata cables laying around. The drive has a massive amount of storage compared to my previous drives, and it can sometimes take a little time to spin up (not using RAID right now).

One died in less than a year

Alan B., Newegg
29 August 2012
  • Summary: This is my first Seagate drive that has ever failed while still in warranty -- and only the second ever. I've submitted a warranty claim and expect to receive a cross-shipped replacement (refurbished, no doubt) within a few days.
  • Pros: Fast. High capacity.
  • Cons: I bought four of these in one lot almost a year ago (for a NAS machine) and another one (for a spare) a couple months later. One of the original four has now died: S.M.A.R.T. error, and SeaTools is unable to repair it.

not bad but

Anonymous, Newegg
29 May 2012
  • Summary: price still too big for it
  • Pros: fast, stable read/write; [for other users: fast sata3 :) :) it's not SSD, it's similar faster at sata2 as at sata3!!!]
  • Cons: noise; (no clicks, etc but big noise from vibration; have four of them and they are more noise then six slower hd204UI; and create more noise then my six noctua coolers...

So far, So Good

Terence B., Newegg
28 May 2012
  • Pros: I buying the Seagate XT brand because my computer stays on for 24-7 and because half the time my drives die around the 2nd or 3rd year. Usually, they're covered by warranty. I only buy Seagate namely for their customer service and great products (hard drives). It was only 2 days from order to del...

Take neg reviews w/grain of salt-Seage = good, 4TB! exc.

Anonymous, Newegg
8 March 2012
  • Summary: None, be fair and chk out all retailers and make obj judgements not ignorant ones. There are items anywhere which may have a 1:500 ratio of damage product. When you see a review with one and 1-egg and the buyer wants to just rant, skip it and move to reviews that are unbiased and fair.
  • Pros: Seagates great products, 4 TB of storage which eliminates 4-1TB's of higher total cost but mostly weight and rm freed up in your case or ext storage enclosure. I havent seen 16TB quad encs yet but im sure there coming any day to accomodate this lg size. Price here is exc! Ive had Seagate drives s...
  • Cons: none really, its a no brainer. ok, maybe the new trend to chg shipping on parts which are sought after here and not just a few bucks but nearly $8. Im a good customer and dont mind emailing the Egg when i have a request. I gotta say they bend over bkwds to accomodate you. Whether its a mfg not re...

Quiet and Reliable

R. Ocampo "Artisan", Amazon
18 February 2012
  • Summary: I am extremely happy with this hard drive. It's quiet, massive at 2TB, and fast - 7200RPM with a 64MB cache. I have a love/hate relationship with Seagate drives because over the years when the drives work, they last a long time.

Good Purchase

Mitchell H., Newegg
5 December 2011
  • Pros: This has been my first non-newegg purchase. With the enormous increase in HD prices due to the floods in Thailand I was able to find the identical drive on A@z@n for $154.00 with free shipping which was much closer to the original price a few months back. This is a fast and responsive drive witho...
  • Cons: Seagate has had reliability issues. You never know if you are going to get a drive that lasts a decade or just a few days. Only time will tell. At least this series comes with a 5 year warranty. However, If the drive dies after 6 months then Seagate replaces it with a refurbished drive and your w...
