First week RAID Array Broken

Bradford J., Newegg
18 December 2012
  • Summary: At least I have my old machine with a different manufacture's drives and the backup I made to move to this new faster machine.
  • Pros: 6 GB SATA 3. 2TB. Whats not to like? Says it handles desktop RAID
  • Cons: Built up my new system last week with 3 of these in a RAID 5 config, restored my files Thursday and working along... Disk 2 dropped out of the array today (Tuesday). I am having the AMD RAIDXpert rebuild the array, but seriously - less than 4 working days and already having problems. It states it...

2 Weeks: Failed Raid Array Drive

James K., Newegg
29 November 2012
  • Summary: If you're in the hard drive business, a 20% failure rate is unacceptable. You can't use my five drives as a fair base, but there are entirely too many other reviews about failed hard drives. This is unfortunately true of every major manufacturer out there today...
  • Pros: Good performance; reasonable price. Newegg has gotten better about packaging... the five drives came wrapped in six inches of bubble wrap, and were taped so tightly I probably could've dribbled the package. But the box was still crushed in in one corner. C'MON, GUYS!!!! People have been complaini...
  • Cons: Two weeks of typical usage, and one of the five drives in my raid array died. Two stars may seem harsh, but a system's hard drive is The. Most. Critical. component of any system. Any other component can be replaced, no harm no foul. But when a hard drive dies, everything on it dies with it. Famil...

Shipping Failure

Jeffrey L., Newegg
15 November 2011
  • Summary: This drive was shipped from NewEgg in a larger box with many other items like a Power Supply, GPU, CPU, blueray burner, and some other assorted goodies... The Hard Drive and the GPU looked used or tampered with but the bigger box it was in was in good condition and nothing else was damaged or...
  • Pros: Traditional a good hard drive made by SeaGate.
  • Cons: Had to RMA it as soon as it arrived, because the power/sata connection was broken almost completely off. OEM Drive so the shipping protection is rather lacking.

Way overpriced

Brad E., Newegg
8 November 2011
  • Pros: So far so good.
  • Cons: This was bought for $139 a month ago. Now I need a second one, and Newegg raised the price by about 200 buck.

Waste of Time

Bryant A., Newegg
8 September 2011
  • Summary: I have a good system with lots of watts. My BIOS sees all 3 TB. I have windows 7 64 bit OS. I downloaded Seagate's DiskWizard. But I can only access 746.39 GB!!! That is only one of the four platters. So maybe I got a dud?
  • Pros: Lots of space (if you can get to it!)
  • Cons: Too complicated for most people to get this to work. It won't work the way you probably are hoping without a lot of shenanigans.

probably not suitable for a raid configuration

Andrew S., Newegg
17 August 2011
  • Pros: I ordered 11 of these. None were DOA, but one started spewing errors pretty quickly and failed a SMART long self-test (but passed the short test).
  • Cons: After a week or so of using these in a linux raid 6 configuration with 10 disks, a bunch of them started spewing errors and made the machine unusable. A reboot seemed to solve the problem, and all 10 disks passed a SMART long self-test. The SMART statistics show very high Hardware_ECC_Recovered c...

Fast, when it works

Tom, Amazon
21 July 2010
  • Summary: Purchased two of these drives for installation into a Synology DS211+ NAS unit. After approximately only 2 months, one drive crashed, requiring replacement. And that's just 2 months of one backup a night, not constant heavy use as a primary drive. Disappointing to say the least.

works but reallocated sector count keeps climbing

Amazon Customer, Amazon
21 July 2010
  • Summary: Drive installed perfectly into a linux server. After 30 days of run-time, the re-allocated sector count was up to 83. After 76 days of 24/7 run-time, the count is up to 499 sectors.
