Summary: Drive ran well when it actually worked. The SATA connection wasn't very good and was very touchy. Got new SATA cables, hoping it was an issue with the cables that came with my mobo, but they didn't work either.
Summary: Bought this drive primarily for the 5 yr warranty. For the 2 years it was in service, drive was error free and operated relatively noise free. Disk died on me around the 2nd anniversary. Sent to Seagate for data recovery. Balked at the estimate of $1500.
Summary: I was disappointed to find that this drive did NOT include a SATA interface cable; or mounting hardware for that matter. I would have expected AMAZON to make mention of that fact so that I could have ordered a cable at the same time as the drive.
Summary: I bought this item in March (not from Amazon), with the 5 year warranty. Worked fine, until it began making a clicking noise, described elsewhere as turning the drive on and off. When the drive was making that noise, it would no longer be detected by windows.
Summary: To my dismay, I discovered that this drive does not support acoustic management modes. Everytime the cache is flushed (which is every 2-3 min or so) I have to put up with what sounds like the buzzing of a large insect trapped inside the computer case.
Summary: I have nothing to complain about the functionality, price, and installation. They are all good. 200 giga bytes hard drive only coasts me $100 after rebate. Installation software works great. And copy files in/out without any problem. But, the harddrive drives me crazy by its noise.
Summary: This thing would be perfect were it not for the noise. Constant humming, can hear it in the next room. Other than that I have it partitioned into 4 volumes and it works very well, double the performance of my previous drive (10 GB quantum)
