Reviews and Problems with Seagate Barracuda 7200.12

Useful, fair price, pretty good reliability.
Summary: I have used these Seagate 1TB drives in my home RAID (redundant array of inexpensive drives) for years. I finally had the first one go bad last week. It lasted 5 years, and its mate is still going strong. Good bang for the buck, and great overall reliability. I will continue to use these drives, and I have had better luck with these models than with the Wester Digital ones, which I average about 3 years out of.
Summary: This was a new drive (not used or refurbished) and worked just fine. Only "issue" and not really a complaint is that it is a ST31000524AS drive and not a 528AS as it was advertised. Not a big deal since it's faster than the 528AS and it's in a RAID 1 config in a BlackArmor NAS 220 so the other drive is the limiting device.
Summary: It's a one terabyte drive, what more can you say about it? I tried to mirror this drive from an identical Seagate ST21000428AS but windows won't let me do it, saying there isn't enough room. I guess I should have bought the second drive slightly larger.
Summary: I bought 5 of these about a year and a half ago befor the hhd market went crazy. Got them for 40$ a peice on sale. 1 was doa but the other 4 have run flawlessly. I have 3 in raid0 and the other one by its self in another build.Great price for the performace at the time i bought.
Summary: I got this drive about 3 years ago and use it frequently. I'm not getting an error message on startup warning me that the drive is about to die, and I can confirm that something is indeed wrong with it since it frequently hangs when trying to access data. The aggressive power management features shorten its lifetime considerably, so don't expect this drive to last you longer than about 3 years.
