Summary: Seagate hard drive arrived promptly, fit perfectly into our eMachine, and is working extremely well. Totally pleased with the product and the people at Crucial for ensuring that it was made for this machine.
Pros: Fast(I generally net write speeds between 120MB/s to 185MB/s on my dedicated recording drive). So it can record decently fast.
Cons: Not that great at high speed sequential writes. Even though I have incredibly high write speeds and a 0% fragmented drive, I can't record in 1080p without stuttering(1080p recordings are only about 80MB/s writing....well within the 120-185 write benchmarks/speeds I get). Usually one of two things happen, I get tons of dropped frames or in the middle of high speed recording it'll drop writing frames to 0-1FPS for a second. That's the only con for me, but it's a big one.
Summary: Although you can get hard drives with higher rpm speeds, this is a really great choice for anyone looking for extra storage space. Since it's very reliable, one might even use it as a primary hard drive. It's also very cheap, considering it's capacity of 1TB. 32MB cache is still OK, and 64MB cache hard drives are too expensive right now, anyway. It might be a good idea to consider putting two (or more) of these in RAID, although I am very pleased using only one.
Summary: So far the hard drive has been working great. No hiccups or anything bad like that . I download games onto it and they play fine with no lag. Windows 7 takes a little long to load compared to my friend's Pc (with similar specs except for a velociraptor instead of barracuda), but that would be expected and the difference is only 20 seconds.
Pros: - lots of space, - fast enough for needs, - seems reliable
