Mine Finally Died

James M., Newegg
23 January 2016
  • Summary: It worked for many years, not sure why it died. Was using it as a backup with a docking station. Got a Rosewill USB 3.0 docking station that doesn't work with my USB 3.0 ports and think it cooked the drive. Tried trouble shooting the dock with the drive and it just spins up and down constantly now.
  • Pros: It lasted past the 2 year warranty
  • Cons: It died.

Still going strong

Anonymous, Newegg
17 January 2016
  • Summary: Owned a pair of these since 2012, one has my programming related files on it... over 1.5 million of them. The other has photography and videography. Both are doing good, and although SMART things they're going to fail based on hours on (and nothing else) I'm going to throw them in a RAID5 with...
  • Pros: - Reliable
  • Cons: - N/A

Great Drive, Get it on Sale

Eli H., Newegg
12 December 2015
  • Summary: Buy it on sale
  • Pros: Purchased on 10/11/11 Have been using heavily as a solo drive nearly every day since installation, including running games and movies at the same time. Only recently have I begun encroaching upon the 2TB spacial limit, leading me to purchase a secondary storage drive.
  • Cons: After four years starting to notice some slight slowdown on startup. Can take several minutes for complete, normal functionality to initialize after the first boot of the day. This however is to be expected after such extensive prolonged use.

  • Pros: They are still working and I got them on 6/24/2011. They are running in a Nas setup with zpool [zfs] No hardware fails and no corrupt files.
  • Cons: None

Seagate ST2000DL003

Daniel J., Newegg
23 October 2015
  • Summary: I never thought I'd have to use a hard drive just to make sure it would last. Seagate used to carry 5 year warranties on all their 3.5" drives. Only lasted 1 day, actually less than 5 hours. Oh well, that's the way it goes.....
  • Pros: Good manufacturer Good price for the date purchased.
  • Cons: Lasted 4-5 hours

  • Summary: I ripped mine out of a Fantom Drive enclosure, which failed. But the Barracuda is holding up like a champ. I've had it since 2012.

Tom M., Newegg

  • Summary: I normally stick with Winchester Drives, Exclusively. This one must have been on sale :)
  • Pros: I bought mine here almost 3.5 years ago. I use it as storage mainly, but its in my main computer that almost runs 24/7. I have never had any problems with it.
  • Cons: None so far.

2nd review

Joseph B., Newegg
28 June 2015
  • Summary: Only concern now is that immediately after writing this it will fail.
  • Pros: Purchased 3/16/2012 for $109, just upgraded MB and CPU; finally able to use 6gb transfer(wont get close to that) but it is noticeably faster. I am impressed with the longevity of this drive. I was concerned when I purchased that I paid too much, it was at the time after the floods that killed pro...

Wish it was cheaper

William L., Newegg
9 April 2015
  • Summary: wish the shipping were faster. The price listed in this posting by NEWEGG is $!19, I paid $280 plus shipping. Something is obviously not right here.
  • Pros: Hard drive arrived as ordered. Works well so far!
  • Cons: The drive this new order replaced worked in a RAID 5 NAS for only 2 years before failing. This did not meet my expectations at all
