Summary: Obviously the personnel in charge of fulfillment at SanDisk RMA wish to do all they can to make better a bad situation... they have succeeded in this case.
Pros: SanDisk RMA process delivered in exchange a SanDisk Extreme II SATA3 240GB replacement drive carrying a 5 year warranty (UPS postage paid by SanDisk to and USPS paid from). This was unexpected and shows an intent from SanDisk that they wish to stand above the competition... Thank you
Cons: SanDisk did not offer a Cross-Ship method of return. Because of this I had to provide my client with a replacement drive whilst I wait for the RMA drive and then swap again. I mailed the RMA (UPS postage paid by SanDisk) 02-05-2014 and received a replacement 02-12-2014.
Summary: Over the period that I owned the disk, I contacted SanDisk with questions several times: they were easy to reach and provided quick, helpful information. Today I contacted them about the disk failure and within an hour had the drive at UPS under an RMA. They treated me very well and I am quite satisfied with the outcome. Based upon this, given the right deal, I'll do business again with SanDisk.
Pros: Great performance for over a year.
Cons: Over the last year had problems 3 problems that seemed associated with the SSD. On the first I had to reformat and re-install Win 7; the second required a firmware update follwed by a backup system image update. Then 3 weeks passed, the system froze and, finally the disc wouldn't reformat and on one machine couldn't be detected.
Summary: Drives fail - hard drives and, now we know, SSDs too. It's a major inconvenience when they do, but if you have a backup procedure, then failures need not be a catastrophe. A normal reaction is to get mad at the manufacturer. Let's be harsh and say the Ultra is a problem product. We can't really expect a manufacturer to proactively replace millions of shipped units, perhaps many of which will never fail.
Pros: Very fast. Gave me absolutely no trouble up until 2 days ago. I originally give this drive a 5-star review. After purchasing, I read all the reviews about the SSD dieing, and hoped I was luckier than most and my drive would continue working. Alas, my luck ran out. SanDisk was very responsive. I called them the day after the drive died, and they gave me an RMA the same day. I have not yet received the replacement. The 3 stars are for the drive, not SanDisk. They've don...
Cons: Drive failure, obviously. Other than that, I was happy with the Ultra 120. To those who still have this drive, you have plenty of warning that your drive will likely fail. Make sure you take regular full-drive backups, so *when* it fails, you'll be prepared. I had backups, so was able to get running again in one day, with all my programs intact.
