Short lifespan

Christian T., Newegg
22 August 2015
  • Summary: Will go back to the expert in the HD field, and will run RAID 1 from now on.
  • Pros: For the price, the memory was cheap. Performance wise is it comparable to WD and Seagate and Maxtor.
  • Cons: Bought 5/10/2011, Today 8/22/2015 the drive crapped out on me. I did not run this 24/7, or abuse it. A 4 year lifespan is okay but honestly I have WDs and Seagates going longer than 10 years.

Cheap but *SLOW*

John V., Newegg
15 December 2013
  • Pros: Inexpensive
  • Cons: SLOW. I know that is to be expected with an eco drive, but this drive is so slow that I can't watch a movie on my HTPC and download something in the background without playback stuttering. Had to put the OS on a separate drive to solve the problem.

SAMSUNG IS NOT SAMSUNG

Jared S., Newegg
24 August 2013
  • Summary: I was very upset to discover after my purchase that Samsung hard drives are out sourced and that the warranty is only one year. I guess you get what you pay for these days and the cheaper the deal means a risky thrill
  • Pros: I have 50/50 mixed feelings because its cheap and works
  • Cons: 1 YEAR WARRANTY SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT QUALITY

Good while it lasted

GARY F., Newegg
29 April 2013
  • Summary: I have changed the way I manage my hard drive inventory and I've also started to use RAID 0. I've ordered 6 new hard drives in the past week as well as a new build. I'm going to keep a few drives on the shelf so that I continue to get my work done.
  • Pros: Lasted 2 1/2 yrs -This drive was originally the SAMSUNG Spinpoint F4 HD204UI 2TB 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s drive. Original drive had a 3 yr warranty - I just beat the warranty by 7 months before it barfed.
  • Cons: I'm sure everyone has already noticed that hard drives just aren't what they used to be. While 2 1/2 yrs isn't "too bad" for the life of a hard drive today, I just pulled my case open to find out I still have 2 Diamond Max Maxtors 200 GB that I purchased in 2006! That's 7 years life. They are sti...

A bit too slow

Michael S., Newegg
18 September 2012
  • Summary: It is not the brand that is the problem, the drive is good, but slow.
  • Pros: The drives are stable and work well.
  • Cons: It's like useing old technology. It is real slow. It take a long time to transfer files to and from the drive.

Hard to really recommend this drive

Pilgrim, Amazon
16 October 2011
  • Summary: The hardware on this drive is pretty good, but the software and service are a mess. The drive was released with a serious bug in the firmware. OK, it happens. But their implementation has a couple big problems: (1) Rather than creating a burnable ISO, they just offer an executable file - you have to...

Did not work on my Mac Pro mid 2010 with Lion

Nance, Amazon
16 October 2011
  • Summary: One of the 3 drives I ordered was DOA (dead on arrival). I could not format the other two in my new Mac Pro (mid 2010) with Lion. It kept saying that it could not unmount the drives. I told the seller (Platinum Micro, Inc.) the situation and that I wanted to return them.

Read about the life cycle and compare before purchasing, this one is low on the list.

JJN00711, Amazon
15 October 2011
  • Summary: After purchasing as a replacement for a drive (exact match) went bad, I read that these drives have a terrible life cycle. They have a failure rate in the 25% after 2 years, my other exact drive failed with light use after just a year and a half.
