Noisy Read/Write

Mungyan F., Newegg
21 November 2007
  • Summary: I would recommend it to anyone looking for a HDD. I've had bad experience with WD as well as Maxtor, this has been a solid drive so far.
  • Pros: I bought two of those as open boxed item for $40 over a year ago now, it is still running strong providing plenty of storage for my needs. Stable performance
  • Cons: Not the fastest, but at this price, who cares. However, it has been getting sort of slow lately with very loud read/write noise on one of the drives (DFT passed, regularly defraged with Perfect Disk).

  • Summary: prolly my fault for not looking in the admin menu but we learn got lucky had a sata to 4 pin conv from initial build
  • Pros: good price for its size i own other samsung products(46"dlp hdtv) and have great results
  • Cons: actual is 233gb which isnt a bigge asin its a added drive but was expecting a little more had to mess around a bit to initialize it and such windows wouldnt auto plop it . uses sata style power connection would suggest buying converter if your psu doesnot have the style connector

Great until now

Daniel V., Newegg
15 March 2007
  • Summary: I'm running an M2N32SLI-Deluxe, have a WD740 as my OS drive and a RAID5 setup with 3 of these drives. I guess this is a "luck-of-the-draw" kind of thing. From the other reviews I have been reading it seems like its not a very rare occurance that the drives fail.
  • Pros: Fast, quiet, smooth
  • Cons: I had one drive fail after 5 months.

It's ok

Terrence C., Newegg
25 August 2006
  • Summary: Runs at 29-33C with my new fans (used to run around 41C before the fans). Real quiet might actually buy another to run RAID setup.
  • Pros: It runs great, pretty quick but no real noticeable difference in speed over ATA 133.
  • Cons: It took me a while to get setup, but that's probably due to my lack of experience with HD's.

Cool and quick, but I dunno about quiet...

Jeremy S., Newegg
23 August 2006
  • Summary: I remember reading a Scifi book in the early nineties that talked longingly about gigabit-capacity storage arrays, and I can buy a quarter of a terabyte for less than seventy bucks - cool.
  • Pros: Fast for a budget drive, and does run nice and cool. Other than that, it works, and that's what HDD's are supposed to do, right.
  • Cons: Makes a fair amount of seek noise - I've gotten used to my drives being quieter than this. It's not quite offensive, but definitely louder than expected.

  • Summary: You get what you pay.
  • Pros: This harddrive is fast! It's also cheap.
  • Cons: Although this drive is quiet, but this thing vibrate like crazy. I can't hear the vibration, but I can definitely feel it.

The Silent Performer

ghost101, Ciao
13 January 2007
  • Excerpt: I've had this Sata2 hard drive for a while now, and i have been very impressed by several factors which i considered when buying the item. Firstly, the Samsung Spinpoint drives are very silent and can hardly be heard over the system and CPU fan.
  • Pros: Quiet and Reliable
  • Cons: Slightly more expensive some other companies
