Summary: I have an old Acer laptop (3-4 yrs old) that was starting to really struggle doing anything, whether it was opening chrome, windows explorer, or even booting up or shutting down. I've had this laptop running 24/7 as an HTPC for 3-4 years, so I figured the hard drive was starting to give out. A dilemma I had was that I did not have a restore DVD copy of Windows 7 (didn't come w/ the laptop), and I didn't want to contact the manufacturer in an attempt to get one.
Summary: Noticeably faster than the standard 840. This helped revive an aging mid 2010 macbook pro. With the help of the usb adapter in the notebook kit the install is as easy as hooking it up the computer with the usb adapter, booting into recovery mode, running the built in apple drive clone utility, and swapping the standard drive out for the ssd once it is finished. osx picked it up with no problems after the install and has been running great for several months.
the software provided with the kit was useless, but the SATA to USB cable worked great

Summary: I'm writing this review on a 2009 Mac Book Pro that I recently upgraded with this SSD. I also upgraded the memory from 4G to 8G at the same time. The improvement in performance is stunning! I ran a disk speed test before and after the upgrade. My old drive read and write speed was about 73 MB/second. The identical test ran after the upgrade was 210 MB/second read and 268 MB/second write.
Excerpt: The installation documentation was incredibly straight forward, but then installation is simple today. Take out the old one and put in the new one, or just add to an available connection. Keep in mind, your machine may not have an available power and/or data connection. Verify what you need before buying. The disk is a leader for main stream users, both incredibly priced and high end performance.
Pros: Easy To Install, Fast, Highly Compatible, Quiet, Reliable
Summary: Really glad I put this in my laptop. Took under an hour from start to finish. Spent the most time getting the laptop's case open and making the hardware switch. Came up fine right out of the gate and everything is absolutely quicker and more responsive. The drive I bought is only half the size of what was there originally, but based on my general usage patterns, 512gb will serve me well for a long time.

Summary: Installed a 512GB 840 EVO in a 5 year old Dell Studio XPS 1640 which has a SATA 3 connection - works fine. My 5 year old laptop now seems like it is only 1 year old. Installation was simple. Software and USB-SATA connector that came with the drive worked simply and flawlessly to clone my old boot disk. Needless to say, boot time, backup times, resume time, application load times have all markedly improved.
