Pros: As with every Samsung SSD we've purchased for our company, these have had the most amazing track record. So far, 0 failures out of every generation from the 470, 830, 840, and 840 Pro as well as unbelievable compatibility! I've installed them in basically everything we have from an ancient Dell PowerEdge 830 (P4 era) server to proprietary embedded systems, and just about any flavor laptop I've seen. We've also used perhaps a hundred Intel SSD's, Unfortunately, the onl...
Cons: NONE... TLC Flash used in these 840 non-Pro SSD's will honestly suffice for anything you ACTUALLY do to it, so don't concern yourself about it. Buy one 2X larger than you think you'll ever need for any given computer and over provision it the 10% Samsung recommends and you're good to go indefinitely.
Summary: After finally getting the new software installed, the first message I received was along the lines of "Destination drive not large enough. Increase size of destination drive to run software." Since the new drive was the same size as the old drive, I was a bit confused. Well, reading the fine print, it turns out that you need a 20% buffer, so I had to remove a bunch of files from the old drive before I could clone.
Pros: Booting windows is so incredibly fast I'm in awe. Once I figured out how to clone my drive, installation was smooth and quick.
Cons: The instructions were outright incorrect. Upon running the included software, I was told I had to install Norton Ghost. No disc was included. The instructions stated I could download the ghost software via a link, so I did so, ran it, and then discovered the drive clone feature was disabled because the Ghost software was not registered. After some Googling, I finally found out that Samsung has a different software now (from Clonix), but was unable to easily find that ...
Pros: * Drive is fast...amazing difference from standard laptop HD
Cons: The software experience is miserable. The real cloning/transfer version is at: www.samsung.com/samsungSSD. I couldn't find this info on the website, after registering my product and calling support (no after hours support for SSD). With the new version available on this site (not the actual SSD Model Product download pages), took less than a hour. In the meantime...corrupted my entire HD install, spent over 10 hours on two unsuccessful system restores, and will now ha...
Pros: Fast. This SSD is fast, and supposedly uses very little electricity (which is great because I put it in a laptop). Also, it was fairly inexpensive for an SSD of this size. I haven't had it for long, but so far it is checking out and the WEI score (highly unreliable, yes, I know) went from a 5.4 on a 7200 RPM SATA II HD to a 7.9 with this one.
Cons: There seems to be a bit of confusion in regards to cloning an OS to this SSD. I followed the directions provided by Samsung, which are presented very simply through pictures. Who could get those wrong?
Pros: I bought this to replace the 160GB Intel 320 series SSD in my Lenovo T420s laptop. I never had any problems with the Intel unit - it was just a little small for the amount of files I work with on the internal drive. No performance difference noted between the two drives - this is a good thing.
Cons: None whatsoever. I'd buy a drive again in a heartbeat.
Pros: This is the first SSD I've purchased. Easily the most noticeable upgrade I've done in terms of everyday use. Compared to a Velociraptor, MUCH faster. Windows 8 is ready to use 10 seconds after pc has fully posted. It shuts down in 3. Programs open near instantly. No horrendous grinding noise like the 10k HDD when seeking. Read speeds of 255mb/s on sata 2 (fastest possible).
Cons: Size. Obviously cost per GB. Still more than worth it in the time you will save over a magnetic drive. TLC is new tech with lower life span. Need a big HDD to go with it for mass storage.
Pros: Wanted to upgrade from Vista Ultimate to Win7 and waited for a good drive to put it on for over a year now.... got this puppy at under $100 from the egg. My board is only SATA2 so I'm not going to get the awesome speeds I could but it will perform killer when I upgrade in the future...
Cons: I had to update the firmware before I did the install, no big deal took some time to get the utility to find the downloaded file which sucked but once unziped it to my desktop I found it and easily upgraded it.
