Summary: This came pre-installed in a Sony F-series laptop I bought Jan. 2011. I think this drive is slow, runs hot, and its loud. I am looking at another drive possibly the seagate hybrid drive. I wouldn't recommend this drive to anyone due to these problems. It has not failed on me but Sony made a mistake putting this drive in this machine.
Summary: This hard drive is a garbage. It came with my new laptop. It started failing after about 3 months. Event though the system was under warranty, HP wouldn't replace it because the hard drive hadn't completely failed. I installed an application to monitor the health of the drive and could see sectors failing every couple of weeks. In addition, it's a pretty slow drive. I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't buy it.
Summary: this hard drive crashed and burned on 2/7/2012, guess they are just piece of crap drives made by samsung, luckily i had already switched to a macbook and didn't loose anything but my hard earned disabled veteran pension money from buying this piece of crap drive.
Summary: I bought this HDD over a year ago and I don't just "dont like it", I hate it! The overall speed performance is the worst. Before this, I didn't belive just an HDD can cut down the system overall performance this much. I just bought an Core i5 laptop and its with this drive working like my 10 years old desktop system with Windows Xp... For work and virtualizing Its not good, I'll change to SSD and a faster HDD soon as I can afford it.
Summary: I just have 2 months with this HDD and it ruined again!!! one night it worked fine, powered off the laptop and the next morning a lot of clicking and hissing noises and the disk did not work again!!! and yes again, because mi laptop had the same samsung disk and it ruined (that was the reason I bought a new one) and the dell recovery discs did not run on a diferent hdd (I tried with a WD) so I had to buy the same junk again!!!
Works flawlessly and runs cooler than drive I replaced.

Summary: I bought this 640GB/5400rpm drive to use in an external enclosure for additional laptop storage. Installation was simple, computer recognized drive immediately and install went fast. It seems faster than my previous drive and runs cooler. Despite some poor reviews elsewhere, I feel that this 2.5-inch HDD was good value for the money and I like that it is completely portable. I bought an external case and the drive installed with only two screws.
