Summary: Was replacing a drive in a HP laptop that was starting to act erratically. My system is very stable now with this new hard drive. (I'm sure the fresh install of Windows is another huge factor!) Make sure you know which kind of hard drive you need.
Pros: This HD works very well. It was recognized by the bios right away. Had no problems installing Windows XP Home SP2 on it.
Summary: If you absolutely have to clone a drive as to not have the downtime to reload all of the program stuff etc.....and you as in my case have a dell or another pc that behaves the same way with clone software, just remember, that as in my case, all of those weird, unknown, undefined sorta....
Pros: much better than the F*j** that came with the Dell Laptop and much faster, but do not expect a miracle. You will find the improvement in loading programs and making copies of stuff within the hard drive, but yes the performance increase is quite noticed.
Summary: There are other SATA based drives from Samsung and all the rest of the gang where it seems the higher the capacity, the faster the drive is. this is true with Western Digital big time with the 320GB not in the same league as the 160 and below and quite a lead over their 250GB.
Pros: Without a doubt. The new Spinpoint series being released and some already out will have the world of 5400 RPM dislikers turning their heads. With the exception of the 7200RPM drive they are readily working on releasing, this 5400 drive is as fast as any 7200 based laptop drive at least a year old...
Cons: Hard to find a good deal on the legacy UDMA models though they are still out there. Current flavors with the 826MBps rate are 80, 120, & 160GB. Even here on Newegg there is no free shipping promotion on the Samsung UDMA versions. If it has that promo, I'm all over it. NewEgg rocks.
Summary: I'm a huge Samsung fan, and this was a huge disappointment.
Pros: Didn't blow up.
Cons: I ordered an HM120JC (twice!), and instead I was sent this thing. I tried to work with it in my PowerBook G4, but I had trouble with it right away. Once I managed to get OS X installed, the clicking began. Of course I sent it back, and got a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 instead
Summary: The drive was very securely packaged when I recieved it.
Pros: This drive is great. It is very quiet in my averatec AV7115-EH1 laptop. I had no problems installing windows XP. The drive is easily formated without proprietary setup software. I was skeptical at first because I didn't know Samsung made harddrives, but now I am very happy with my purchase.
Cons: I really can't think of anything bad about this drive.
Pros: Bought to replace OEM Hard drive that died hard and unexpectedly. All packaging was wonderful and item installed into the computer and was recognized immediately.
Cons: Initially installed Ubuntu on system. within 3 days system was unable to boot from the HD. Uninstalled Ubuntu and reformatted using partitions to manage boot sectors. Again within 3 days partitions became corrupted. In hopes that this was merely an OS problem I removed Ubuntu and reformatted agai...
Summary: Quiet and tough. I have lugged my Powerbook 1.25 all over the country i a Targus notebook backpack, and this drive has taken everything I can throw it at- plane trips, days in the back of my pickup truck, being left outside on a twenty below night, being left in the truck on a sunny day in Arizona,...
Pros: Cheap then, cheaper now, QUIET, tough, what else can you ask for?
Cons: It's full. I'm here to replace it, and Samsung doesn't make one big enough.
