Summary: It would be nice if there was software to report/record SMART events of HDD used in RAID configurations!
Pros: Fast, quiet. Reliability notwithstanding, presumably a good value.
Cons: Bought a pair of these (consecutive S/N!) for a new i5-750 video workstation I built. The failed HDD was installed as half of a RAID 1 configuration. Within the 1st 10 hr of use, the Intel RAID interface began reporting errors. I have since replaced the bad Samsung HDD with a Hitachi of the same ...
Summary: I've had no failures in these 8 drives, or the 1TB Samsung drives I originally got them with, and all are *very* heavily utilized. They were very well packed in styrofoam and bubble-wrap when they arrived.
Pros: I have 8 of these that I got free as part of a promotion on NewEgg eight months ago when I bought some Samsung 1TB drives. I have 6 set-up in 3 mirrored boot pairs on servers and 2 others as individual workstation drives, and haven't had any particular problems with any. They seem to run cooler t...
Cons: One dropped out of one of my mirrors on a reboot a few months back. A full shutdown/restart brought the drive back and the mirror rebuilt with no issues which makes me think it wasn't the drive's fault but possibly a transient issue to do with the m.b. controller or BIOS.
Summary: The warranty on this drive is longer than the life cycle of the servers they are installed on.
Pros: I have 4 of these running in 2 different raid zeros, running for more than 6 months with no problems. I’m using windows serve software raid and performance is acceptable for office file sharing and small database access.
Summary: Buy these if you are looking for reasonable, fast, long term redundent storage, which is constant write capable, and protected by the best warranty in the business. To the other reviewers who give this a low rating because they got a physically damaged unit from newegg need to rereview once they get...
Pros: This drive has more than exceeded my expectations. When I purchased it there were no reviews. I based my decision to buy on my past experience with Samsung drives, which has been excellent, and the multitude of positive reviews on the 1 Tb version of this drive. I purchased two and have them set ...
Cons: Price has gone down since I purchased. I wish I could have waited, still worth every penny.
Pros: Drives are pretty quiet. Decent access times and storage size.
Cons: I had two of these drives in an external enclosure of slightly less than 1 year. 1st drive failed catastrophically (can't even get the Samsung Util to run with drive connected to computer). Other drive "appeared" to be running well, so I decided to put it through the Samsung HDUTIL test and it fo...
Summary: I did not buy through Newegg, but I thought It would be best to stop by and drop a message to make all other users aware of this product. Now I will start looking for a different hard drive.. OF course I will be looking for 2 internal hard drive in case one fails on me.
Cons: Worked fine for the first two weeks, after that everything started going down hill. after 8 months of owning it, it finally gave up on me. Computer crashed often and starting it up took longer and longer. In other words DO not buy this product. Now I have to call up the company to see if I can ha...
Summary: They got hot as hell but I guess that is to be expected. 2 120mm fans on the hdd rack, front and side, to keep one hdd at a time cool during format and integrity tests. With the number I am going to be adding to the case I guess it's time to get a water cooling system :(
Pros: Space for price this is great considering it is RAID class
Cons: Drive showed up with a DENT in the top! Someone in QA missed this one as there is no way that ever could happen during shipping seeing as the bubble wrap wasn't damaged. Waiting to see if I have any other duds before I RMA as I purchased 8 drives in one go...
Summary: People need to understand that HDD are mechanical devices and shipping can damage them. Nearly all the HDD reviews here on newegg are either "drives work fine" or someone screaming over a dead drive.
Pros: I bought two of these drives for a system I was building specifically for RAID 0. They run like a dream, have had no issues since November 08 under heavy usage and multiple formats. Quiter then the drives I upgraded as well as significantly faster.
