Bought 2 with wildly varying outcomes.

Anonymous, Newegg

  • Pros: The one I bought that lasted, works great. Has lasted... probably more than 3 years uptime, plus travel, multiple reformats, etc.
  • Cons: The one that did not live, died quickly but I procrastinated about RMA'ing it at the time. I mean bad, like, 200 new bad sectors per badblocks iteration.

Goodbye mi Amor

Rudy A., Newegg
28 June 2013
  • Summary: Well it made this far, once it died I gave it a medal, opened it up and hit and beat it up with the hammer of justice, farewall you served me well.
  • Pros: It lasted this long, bought in 10-9-2009 and just died in 2013.
  • Cons: When i first bought this everyone was claiming it was dying in 6 months.

GETCHU SOME!

Anonymous, Newegg
29 January 2010
  • Summary: GETCHU SOME! If my Rampage Extreme would hold more, I would.
  • Pros: Fast. Reliable using hardware raid. Rock solid drives since the move to hardware raid. Good performance.
  • Cons: There must be a compatability issue with the x48 chipset (ICH9R). Tried every chipset driver Got Vista 64 running 3 times and all three times the drives eventually got corrupted.

Works just fine

Jesse Y., Newegg
28 October 2009
  • Summary: Bought two of them and put them into RAID 0. Didn't get the speed boost that I thought I was but it still is faster and bigger than my other one.
  • Pros: Does what it says, quality drives for cheap
  • Cons: None that I know of

Good Hard Drive

Anonymous, Newegg
8 January 2009
  • Summary: Good value.
  • Pros: This HDD installed very easily with no problems. The mounting brackets are quality. I used a Rosewill HDD cooler with this and the combo works very well. Performance is good. All my games are stored on this and they load very quickly and music is moved onto this drive rather quickly as well.
  • Cons: SATA cable slot required an unusual amount of force to apply cable. Have recently been getting the Blue Screen of Death, but can not apply it to this item because I'm not sure, but it is a possibility.

  • Pros: lots of space for not a lot of money. speeds are good
  • Cons: none really solid so far

Good Drive; Poor Reviewers

Edward D., Newegg
3 January 2009
  • Summary: Before you sift through a bunch of people who got hot and bothered because their drive didn't work, and that they are special and everything should be perfect for them- read some legitimate reviews.
  • Pros: Nice, large, quiet drive. Also a nice price point. Fairly fast seek speeds.
  • Cons: The drive? I'd always love a larger drive. The reviews? Many. People seem to think that every single piece of electronics that they receive will work, that's not the case. Infact, hardware failure happens. Get over it. That's why you have RMAs. Your defective product is clearly not how the produc...

Middle of the road

PullSideways, Dooyoo
7 December 2010
  • Excerpt: Dont skimp on your hard drive. The hard drive is the single biggest bottleneck on desktop performance. Opening programmes and manipulating files is not governed by your processor your RAM or (as someone once said to me) by your uber-expensive graphics card.
