great while it lasted

Brian H., Newegg
15 April 2013
  • Summary: I'm disappointed that it has developed errors in only 18 months on a drive used mostly as OS boot and read-only plus OS cache on my. If this as been my primary business laptop, I would be hosed. The drive firmware is supposed to track usage and auto correct for these kind of errors. Maybe not.
  • Pros: great performance boost on boot up clear install and OS transfer instructions good included utility to transfer existing OS: Ghost
  • Cons: A bit difficult to setup & transfer of Win7 x64 (An MS issue, not the drives, as Win7 remembers the detailed drive configuration, and doesn't like the initial copied SSD image) lasted 18 months then developed bad sectors in key OS files. Windows can't repair and I have lost partial OS functionali...

Warning

richard s., Newegg
17 February 2013
  • Pros: It was my first SSD
  • Cons: After 3 months SSD went bad. RMA the SSD and got back a refurbished unit. That not right.Did not buy a refurbished. I do warranty work on pool equipment and we dont replace parts with used parts. So fair warning. Going to fight to get a new one.

Still on the fence

Lawrence B., Newegg
21 December 2012
  • Summary: First off, Im a photographer. I have some very demanding clients that want their photos immediately. I've had this drive for about 3 months. When I first installed it, it was AWESOME! Super fast and it really worked well when I would bring my MBP on location for photo shoots.
  • Pros: Super fast
  • Cons: Scary to use

Great Hardware but a lame Software Support

Alex, Amazon
16 December 2012
  • Summary: This SSHD have a very good hardware specs but they need to fix the description of the product because the Symantec Norton Ghost DOESN'T WORK at all so the easy migration thing its a completely lie no comp ability with Windows 8, thanks for make me waste my time trying to make a "easy" migration of...

frustrated

Henry S., Newegg
16 December 2012
  • Summary: Newegg's always been good about this sort of thing so I will see what they can do.
  • Pros: can't rate higher since I can't install it. I will have to reevaluate, if I don't rma it.
  • Cons: I paid extra for this product because it came with a "full" installation package but there was no bracket in the box and no activation code for Norton Ghost. It won't clone without one and presumably they want more money for that. I have also read here that it doesn't clone everything anyway. I c...

Windows 7 won't complete installation

Michael F., Newegg
15 October 2012
  • Pros: I haven't been able to make use of it yet.
  • Cons: Attempting a clean install of Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit after installing the Samsung 830 in an older Dell Dimension E510. As the installation neared completion, and after several re-boots, the screen went blank with only the mouse cursor showing. I had not yet entered the 25 digit Key. I had no furt...

Samsung 830 256 gig SSD

Greg J., Newegg
24 August 2012
  • Summary: Hopefully when I call Samsung, I can get a new SATA to USB cable that works! In the mean time, I will have to spend an additional $20-$25 for a decent 2.5" SATA enclosure. I wonder if Newegg can just refund me the $20 it would have cost to get the non-kit version and just send back the piece-of-$%$...
  • Pros: None yet. I have yet to install the drive. But once I do, I imagine it will be a heck of a lot faster than my HDD.
  • Cons: Only con as of now is that I can't get Windows 7 (64bit) to recognize the drive using the notebook kit (SATA to USB cable--piece of $%$ cable, in my opinion). I tried updating drivers, changing settings in the BIOS, reading forums, etc. but to no effect. However, when I swapped out my HDD with th...

poor performance

Brian G., Newegg
20 August 2012
  • Summary: Norton Ghost is worthless.
  • Pros: computer boots up slightly faster, nothing really significant.
  • Cons: purchased this SSD to replace a SATA II 250GB hard drive. Norton Ghost which came with the SSD to clone your old drive to the new drive, is worthless. I wouldn't waste me time on using Ghost again. Also the computer we are using it for only has windows 7 Ultimate and a moderately task intensive p...

Very very slow random IO speed (slower than my hard drive)

M. Merlin, Amazon
17 August 2012
  • Summary: I wrote a longer review on my blog with graphs and benchmark data. Long story short, the block/sequential IO speeds were fine. The random IO speeds were so bad that they were several times slower than a 5400RPM hard drive in my laptop :( I know you'll be tempted to think that I don't know what I'm...
