Summary: During the initial 8 months to date that I had this drive I was simply delighted with it. AMAZING performance! However...Today my computer would simply not boot up! After investigation I saw that one of the 4 "disks" that make up the RAID 0 performance drive will not register. All data lost and my drive means nothing. I am disappointed at the reliability. Think twice to purchase this. I am now hoping to return this, but do not have the original packaging.
Summary: I've had the 480GB OCZ RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD Solid State Disk (read 740MB/sec - write 720MB/sec) for over 6 months now. The initial setup was not simple. I could not perform a restore from my current HDD. I did attempt a restore, but the performance was extremely poor. It was slower than my HDD by far. Once I clean installed Windows 7 x64 and installed all my programs, performance was still pitiful.
Summary: I had a first generation Intel SSD that I previously used as the boot drive for my Windows 7 PC. It did a great job for the first year and half until the lack of TRIM support really slowed it down. My choices were to either recondition it and hope that it went back to factory speed (which was not quite so fast 2 1/2 years later), purchase a current generation of SSD, or try this product.
Summary: If you want the fastest possible storage for your PC and the sticker shock doesn't scare you away this is the drive for you. It truly is incredibly fast, noticeably quicker than a normal SSD and not even really comparable to a mechanical hard drive. Of course for ~$3 per GB it ought to be something special, since at the time I'm writing this review you can get a normal SSD for under $2/GB and mechanical drive for under 5 _cents_ per GB.
Summary: Looks like I am the first comment on this item, which is not surprising considering the price. First, the good: This thing is fast. I benched it at 750 MB/sec on reads above 32k in size and 650 MB/sec in writes. This is well over double the speed of the top SATA SSDs on the market right now. I have not had a chance to bench IOPS yet, but from what I have found should be about 120,000/sec, which is blazing fast and what is really important when used as an OS drive.
Summary: I must say I cannot be to specific on details of how fast is or what are the true qualities of this product but I can say my system starts much faster than when it started from HDD. I installed on this drive just the system, all the drivers for additional hardware and essential programs in Program Files folder. The system is up in less than a minute and when I started it for the first time it was wow! experience. It is very quiet as well :-) I recommend it.
Summary: Using this with SQL 2005 databases on. Queries that take 10 minutes on the PC's hard disks take less than 10 seconds when the database files are mounted on the card. Gave problems when we used two of the cards and the software raid under windows 7. Stick to one drive and the speed will blow your mind. A restore of a 47gb databases was taking over 2 hours now down to 3 minutes ! Shame there are no Windows 2003R2 drivers at time of writing so we had to use Windows 7.
Summary: Well, this is a 'superfast' ssd as it's not limited by your SATA since it uses the PCI-E instead. However, it still has problems. Here's some pro's and con's: Pro's: - Decent speed (Look at con's) - Doesn't take up SATA slot if you have a lot of drives, also if you have a small amount of drive ability in your chassis, this is a great thing Con's: - Crashes. A LOT. - While speed is decent, it's not extreme.
