Update to Previous Review - Drive Replaced

Gregory M., Newegg
29 April 2014
  • Summary: This is an update to my earlier review. A few reviews down is my original review of the Vertex 2, which failed barely within warranty. Specifically, it died on day 178 of the 180-day refurb warranty. I feared we'd be stuck with a dead drive, especially with OCZ's recent bankruptcy/buyout issues. Well, I needn't have worried.
  • Pros: OCZ Customer Support! New drive rocks!!
  • Cons: Inconvenience of having to replace failed drive, had to pay return postage.

User Review

Richard E., Newegg
27 April 2014
  • Summary: Happy with the purchase. Wanted a little more performance out of an older PC without spending much, so went with this refurbished drive. Very happy with the performance running Windows 8.1. Just a simple web/email/music box, but the system is noticeably snappier than with the previous spinning platters.
  • Pros: None.
  • Cons: None.

Does the job

Marc S., Newegg
30 March 2014
  • Summary: I don't know what makes SSDs break down or DOA but after 10 (various brands) SSDs over 4 years I have yet to experience a failure. Just the usual review bias I guess.
  • Pros: Going strong after 5 months Not the fastest, but no issues either Had good luck with Vertex 2 when they were current
  • Cons: Not competitive with current performance levels, but $0.50/GB is nice for machines with lower requirements. Had to upgrade the firmware out of the box.

It's ok

Angela W., Newegg
26 February 2014
  • Summary: You will be satisfied with the read speeds of this drive, but you will say ??? when it comes to the write speeds. I would have blamed the SATA controller had I not tried the drive in another system.
  • Pros: Works, was not DOA
  • Cons: Write speeds on this drive are questionable.

Shoulda done my homework

Anonymous, Newegg
3 February 2014
  • Summary: I might have found that out before buying it, but I just got it on impulse more than anything. It's sped up my dad's old PC spectacularly, though, and seems to be working well. My machine would only read from it intermittently; I could potentially get an expansion slot SATA controller and use it in mine, but it was easier just to buy another SSD instead.
  • Pros: Reasonably priced Pretty fast Looks nice Manufacturer's tech support fast and knowledgeable
  • Cons: Doesn't work properly on Haswell (LGA 1150) based Intel motherboards, at least not with the onboard Intel SATA controller.

Inexpensive SSD

Adam J., Newegg
31 January 2014
  • Summary: This is the 2nd OCZ I have purchased, the first being an Agility 4, I have had no problems with either drive. I have been using this drive for games that I wanted faster load times on and it works great.
  • Pros: Cheap SSD. Would make a good boot drive. No problems yet.
  • Cons: None so far.

Ryan M., Newegg
22 January 2014
  • Summary: To the guy below me funny how we bought ours at the same time and they died at the same time.
  • Pros: Fast speeds Worked pretty good for almost 3 years
  • Cons: well 10 days before warranty expired it just up and quit working. Hopefully RMA will kick in even though its close to the warranty expiration.

A Great boot drive.

Pratheep T., Newegg
8 January 2014
  • Summary: Shrunk the C drive on my old drive from 250GB to 100GB, then cloned that to this SSD. So I didnt have to reinstall the OS. Used EASEUS Partition master to clone the drive.
  • Pros: A big step from a 7.2K Drive. Good Boot drive.
  • Cons: Nothing.. bad to write about.

Great little SSD

Jacob H., Newegg
2 December 2013
  • Summary: I would recommend this drive for the price I paid.
  • Pros: Great SSD. Upgrading from a HDD, this is a huge jump. It has ran stable without any problems over the last week, and windows 7 boots in about 10-15 seconds.
  • Cons: I had to manually go into windows disk management and format the SDD before It could be recognized. Not a big deal, but I would guess half of the bad reviews are due to the customers lack of experience.
