Summary: To recap: bought on Tue, OCZ collapsed on Wed and on Fri the Seagate model was only $10 more. Six days after that, I received the drive in the mail.
Pros: Very fast, worked out of the box, no complaints at all. Using as a cache drive for ZFS (see my other review on the 60GB model). This does extremely well as a ZFS cache in a SAS enclosure.
Cons: The product is fine, but timing is everything. I ordered on Tue and the very next day, on Wed, OCZ announced it was going into bankruptcy, rendering the 180 day warranty useless. I will probably buy the Newegg extended warranty for both the 60GB and 240GB models I recently purchased, but Newegg ought to throw that in, given that Toshiba will probably buy the OCZ assets and leave the liabilities (like the warranties) with the bankruptcy court. That Friday, the well-rev...
Pros: RMA process was straightforward. 1st Unit, DOA, returned to OCZ, they upgraded me to a 256G Vertex 2 refurbished drive, but it too was DOA. I decided to try one more time via the RMA route -- 3rd drive arrived (and not in the #$@% plastic wrap) - it was a refurbished 256G *Vertex 3+ drive with full packaging (including a mounting tray - which the original drive did not have). Third drive appears flawless. We will subject it to more testing over the next month.
Cons: First two drives were DOA -- Vertex 2 180G, then Vertex 2 256G. Neither of them were recognized in any of multiple systems (that worked just fine with Samsung 930 and 840 drives).
