Faulty

G3, Amazon
26 July 2013
  • Summary: The unit I received formatted okay and cloned okay (I thought), but it would simply not operate properly. It would begin to function and then slow and grind to a halt with intermittent disk access. Can't give it anything but one star, although a working unit would get 4 (cost/GB not great). I would have returned it for a replacement, but I found a local supplier with a Sandisk 240G unit for the same cost.

Failed after ~1 year

Ingmar K., Newegg
4 September 2010
  • Summary: This is my 4th SSD, and I have not had problems with SSDs before. I also have a 32Gb, a 64Gb and a 128Gb. They all run fine, and are older than the intel. As such, I would stay away from intel SSDs. I will certainly not get an SSD from them again. To be fair, my system is still booting and working, with the exception of some routine hangs every morning.
  • Pros: I initially had this drive in a Dell XPS desktop, but after purchasing a Lenovo T-Series laptop I moved it there. This was mostly because Lenovo didn't offer SSDs larger than 128Gb. I didn't have any issues with the drive until I moved it in the Lenovo Thinkpad, and even there it was running well for a few months - until now.
  • Cons: After owning it for less than year, it's causing a heap of problems now. It started a few days ago, when I would get strange errors in the System event log (running on x64 Win7), complaining about Disk I/O errors. Naturally I assumed that this was some flaw in Windows, since I had never had any problems with the HD. Now, some files on my disk are unreadable. However, they are not unreadable in the usual sense - Windows will just hang for about 10 minutes, before it te...

Failed after a few days **new update**

David J. Carpenter, Amazon
26 November 2009
  • Summary: I purchased the Intel SSD because I had read about nothing but problems with other brands. What a mistake. I installed Windows 7 64-bit as a fresh install and it would constantly freeze or blue screen. I found many people who were having the same problems while running Windows 7 64-bit but Intel were not providing any help at all in their support pages.

Bad batch of Intel SSD's...UPDATE

RT H., Newegg
8 November 2009
  • Pros: UPDATE: Pleased to report that both Newegg and Intel agreed to help me with these problem drives. Newegg agreed to issue refunds for the (2) Intel SSD’s given the apparent bad lot they had received from one of their suppliers. This was in lieu of Newegg’s standard policy of replacing this type of product (we tried that on one unit and found it was also bad). Thanks to DoM_DoM at EggXpert.com who helped with customer service. Intel also recognized a unique situation in...
  • Cons: A final note, I received the drives from Intel and ran the SSD Toolbox and they also reported firmware version “ 0953“, the same exact bad firmware of the drives to be replaced! Intel assured me these came from their depot and should be the current released firmware. At this point we threw the towel in and Intel agreed to refund my purchase on the (2) drives I originally purchased from Newegg. I purchased (2) OCZ SSD’s from Newegg and they appear to be running fine.

BAD batch of Intel SSD's

RT H., Newegg
30 October 2009
  • Summary: I suggested that Newegg have someone look into the situation (and volunteered to have them contact me and I would share the details); no one has followed up. I'm currently waiting on Intel tech support to see what they can do in this situation. If Intel does the right thing and helps out I'll stay with Intel, if not, I'll try a couple of OCZ SSD's.....
  • Pros: WARNING: Newegg is selling bad Intel SSD’s: I bought (2) 160gb Intel SSD’s from Newegg and two weeks later started having disk paging errors and system lockups. I downloaded Intel’s new SSD Tools; firmware update & new “trim” performance tools. Firmware wouldn’t update and reported that both disk had “pre-release” firmware version (0953) and couldn’t be updated. I contacted Intel support and they verified that firmware release “0953” was a pre-release version and not ...
  • Cons: Now the rub. I used the first SSD two weeks ago in a new system I was building. When it was determined I had these bad drives I informed Newegg I didn’t have the retail packaging for this first drive. I normally hang onto the component packaging for a few days to make sure the component isn’t DOA and functions normally. As I have stated, this drive didn’t act up and the problem come to light for two weeks. Newegg has refused to take the drive back. This is in spite of...

Intel X25-M SSDSA2MH080G2K5 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Trumble, pricebat.ca
20 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Incredibly fast drive, as advertised. Failed following only a week of typical use. Luckily, it failed so swiftly that I nonetheless had my old drives prepared to be dropped back in. Now I have to decide if I want to attempt this SSD again or go for some thing much more trusted.
