dead after 10 months

Mark G., Newegg
5 August 2012
  • Summary: Forget about the 1.5 million hours mean time to failure. There's a good article on Tom's Hardware about the real-world failure rate of the SSDs, and it's probably worse than mechanical hard drives.
  • Pros: soundless, very fast
  • Cons: dead as a brick after only 10 months -- I shut down my system with the Windows shut down button, and 2 hours later tried to reboot, only to have the SSD completely dead. I swapped SATA and power cables, and tried to have the drive recognized in a different computer, all to no avail. I have my who...

Died faster than regular drive

Greg G., Newegg
17 July 2012
  • Pros: I loved the speed. Got a fast score from Windows 7
  • Cons: , but it died in 9 months. That's too fast for me and too expensive to have dud out like that. Of course I expected for the huge amount of money that it would last longer than that. Big Bummer.

stopped working after 3 months

Adam B., Newegg
14 March 2012
  • Summary: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz GIGABYTE G1.SNIPER2 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16 GB COOLER MASTER HAF X case CORSAIR Professional Series HX750 Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD PCI Express EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3072MB Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) 128 Gb
  • Pros: worked allright when it worked at all..
  • Cons: didnt last very long. bought with a new computer build hopeing for a reliable hard drive like they advertise so much. after having it for about 3 months it died so my new build is now out of commission. Being more money than allot of other ssd drives out there supposedly because of their "great r...

BE AWARE OF Intel Support

Penta M., Newegg
7 February 2012
  • Summary: The Emperor is buck naked. The drives have premium prices but that's about it. Performance and support is on level with other drives that offers the same price/performance/stability ratios.
  • Pros: It's a 120GB
  • Cons: Be aware that there is NO support from intel. They will autorespond promising an answer that never comes. You are at the mercy of the message boards and fellow owners who try to help each other out. You are paying a premium to get ignored by Intel. Heck, even OCZ offers a little more support.

Lenovo T520 + Intel 510 = 40 second warm boot

Jason L., Newegg
10 January 2012
  • Summary: If this issue sees resolution from either manufacturer, I will return and increase the rating.
  • Pros: It is fast (unless you reboot it in a Lenovo laptop) and large enough to be used for the intended task.
  • Cons: Lenovo T520 + Intel 510 = 40 second warm boot delays due to an incompatibility with Lenovo's Thinkvantage Active Protection Sensor Diagnostics. Basically, on warm boot, it hangs at POST displaying Thinkvantage Active Protection Sensor Diagnostics for 40 seconds before continuing to boot. Look, I ...

1st SSD with 1st failed drive

Daniel C., Newegg
31 December 2011
  • Summary: I will update you on this once I go through the return with Intel. I have to wait until Monday to talk to them as the office is only open m-f.
  • Pros: Well I got this drive in June and it has worked great for 6 months. Then for whatever reason it just died.
  • Cons: After 6 months of use it just died. Very disappointed as I spent the extra money on this drive to get a more reliable drive.

DOES NOT WORK WITH 2011 MACS!

Seldon S., Newegg
19 December 2011
  • Summary: The thing was fast when it worked, but a bunch of beach balls had me arguing with NewEgg and eventually getting in-store credit on this thing.
  • Pros: Fast
  • Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH A EARLY 2011 MAC, DO NOT BUY BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT GET REFUND!

Michael E., Newegg
6 December 2011
  • Pros: Fast!
  • Cons: BSOD followed by total failure of all data on SSD. Now unable to boot Windows 7 from SSD and all data lost!

Disappointing drive locks up regularly

Stephen F. Abbot "Stephen Abbot", Amazon
13 November 2011
  • Summary: Tried to use the drive as a primary OS drive for a new ASUS G53SX-A1 with Win 7 64 bit. Following installation, OS would regularly freeze lasting on average 30-90 seconds 1-5 times an hour. Some research found numerous reports of freezing, or worse BSOD common to the drive.

Have had 2 fail in 5 months

Geoffrey S., Newegg
29 July 2011
  • Summary: Too many people write glowing reviews within the first few days of ownership. Don't think that these glowing reviews mean that the drive is reliable. The glowing reviews are mostly focused on performance. Also, manufacture's published "mean time between failures" is very misleading.
  • Pros: Its faster than a conventional drive, but ...
  • Cons: Its not reliable, at least not for very long. See my review from mid March ("about as useful as a rock"). The first lasted 5 days, and the 2nd about 4 months. Yes, it is fast when you first set it up, but the probability of failure is much higher than that of a conventional hard drive. its very t...
