ICY DOCK MB994SP-4S Mobile Rack Review

ThinkComputers

  • Summary: Conclusion If you fall into Icy Dock’s target audience with this product – that is, high intensity, high RPM drives, possibly in a RAID environment – then you’ll be satisfied. But what about if you’re not in the target audience? I was pleasantly surprised. The MB994SP has many things going for it. Not only is a sleek looking solution to keeping all your 2.5” drives in one convenient location, but it also cools them (if they’re mechanical) and keeps them safe.
  • Pros: – Holds 4 drives, – Easy to install, – Lots of drive protection, – Hides clutter, – Looks good, – Good thermal performance, – Low noise
  • Cons: – Causes slight performance decrease

  • Summary: The IcyDock MB994SP-4SB-1 is just such a unit - it packs (4) 2.5" HDD/SSD drives into the space of a single 5.25" drive bay and provides unified power and SATA hook ups at the rear. On top of its high density convenience, all four SATA drive bays are hot swappable without the need to pop off a side panel or disconnect cables.

  • Summary: Unless you have a swanky PC case, it's usually not very easy to install a couple 2.5" notebook-sized hard drives into a desktop computer system.... until now.
