Summary: this is a very fast drive in the right medium. in a usb3 icybox dock i was able to write to it at 65MB/s. and copy from it at 80MB/s. in a orico usb3 2588 portable caddy speeds were 30MB/s. the drive is also very thin if that is a requirement you have.
Summary: My Fujitsu laptop had a 320GB 5,400rpm drive and was working fine. Boot up time on Windows 8 was approx. 60sec. I wanted a larger drive and hopefully a faster one so purchased the Hitachi Travelstar 500GB which runs at 7,200rpm. Boot up is now aprox 30 sec. with this drive and of course it has extra storage. A clean install may have increased the speed a little but most of the improvement is the new drive.
Summary: My old MacBook Pro was showing its age. The original hard drive was showing signs of slowing down, and it was a constant battle to maintain a decent amount of free space on the 160GB unit. The Travelstar was recommended by geeky friends. I attached the drive to my Mac by a USB adaptor, formatted it, and cloned the internal drive over.
