Summary: The drive was mispackaged and was not "Amazon frustration free". It was packaged as a Seagate drive, but did have a Hitachi drive inside. The drive was marked as manufactured October 2011. The plastic clamshell was damaged and upon a software diagnostic, the drive was reported as damaged/defective.
Summary: This drive was in a computer system I bought new and started making noise about a week later. The "click of death". It went on for several months, freezing, clicking, etc, then completely died. Finally I got a Toshiba replacement drive from the computer manufacturer. Don't waste your money on this one.
Summary: I have used Hitachi drives in laptop/notebook computers and have been very satisfied with the reliability, speed, and noise levels. I decided to take a chance with a Hitachi desktop hard drive. I purchased the desktop version in July 2012 and it appeared to great. I have been running CrystalDiskInfo on a monthly basis to check my drives and to plan for any hard drive problems before it is too late.
Summary: Fast delivery and well packaged, this drive works well in my Son's Desktop. No problems with install or formatting and it continues to work well. All as expected for a HDD at this stage of the product life cycle.
Summary: I ordered this drive to match an existing HD in my computer. Order was shipped quickly, but item was not the same brand name. Part numbers are close but do not match the one I ordered. Hard drive specs appear to be the same. Only time will tell if the drive I received is 100% compatible. Also note the original Hatachi drive was built in May 2012 and failed within 6 months of occassional use.
Summary: A perfect addition for my DELL computer as a secondary drive. The speed (RPM) and reliability of this unit has been GREAT so far. I personally feel that Hitachi, Toshiba, Western Digital make some of the finest mechanical hard drives.
Summary: I purchased this because my main hard drive was making noises. I've set it up as a back-up drive. Installed easily and has had no issues. ***** I TAKE THIS BACK!!!!!!!!!!! ***** My warranty on this hard drive expired Oct. 26th. On November 1st my PC started alerting me to a failing drive. Keep in mind that the ONLY use this drive has had is to store back-up files.
