Summary: I purchased this drive to replace another drive which had failed. Fortunately I had a backup and my data was saved. I choose this drive after looking at various Internet sites reporting on the dependability of Hard Disk Drives. Hitachi stood out as a drive that failed less than other manufacturer's.
Cons: Dang this drive runs hot! After 5 min. of sustained write the drive was too hot to touch. I'm not sure if this is an issue with all SATA drives or just with these, but it sure seems like temps that high would affect drive life.
Summary: the drives are ok for additional storage but not for raid configurations. Config x2 4200 2GB memory apower 600 w power supplies 2 dvd burner server 2k3 ent 5 sata 2 ide hds
Pros: Cheap two 320 gb hd 3 year warranty nice buffer size Reads and writes quickly in single drive configuration
Cons: really hot seagate tools shows both drives going over 124 f unreliable performance in raid config raid failed twice in mirror config loud did not perform as well as the seagate raid or western digital raid i created on the same system.
Summary: 3 stars because I understand DOA happens and newegg was great about it. I have since ordered a 500GB Seagate at $69 with free shipping. I wanted to give the smaller name brand a try and was willing to take the RMA replacement, it just didn't happen this time.
Pros: I bought it when it was $49 with free shipping. Came in 2 days.
Cons: DOA. I RMA'd it and they didn't have anymore so they gave me a refund.
Summary: i'vealways trusted hitachi but now i have to think twice. the only reasn why i dcided not to completely abandon Hitachi is because of neweggs amaing customer support. everyone deserves a 2nd chance
