  • Excerpt: Alas, poor Hitachi; we knew him well, Horatio. Hitachi’s Global Storage division might have been gobbled up by Western Digital, but it’s still putting out product, at least for now. Hitachi’s latest addition to the Deskstar line is a five-platter, 3TB, 7,200rpm drive with 64MB of cache and a 6Gb/s SATA interface. Yeah, we can deal with that. Hitachi’s Deskstar ships with a piece of paper directing users to download the Hitachi GPT Disk Manager from Paragon Software.
  • Pros: Fast, capacious, and relatively inexpensive; helpful software wizard.
  • Cons: Sequential reads and writes lag very slightly behind Seagate’s offering.

  • Excerpt: Hitachi wasn’t the first manufacturer to release a 3TB internal hard disk, but it was the first to produce one with a 7,200RPM spindle speed. Combined with SATA3 support, the Deskstar 7k3000 certainly looks the business on paper. We were certainly impressed with its performance in our file transfer benchmarks. The Deskstar wrote large files at 104.4MB/s and read them at an even faster 141.6MB/s.

  • Conclusion: Liczba 72 w symbolu modelu oznacza prędkość 7200 obr./min, 3030 - pojemność trzech terabajtów, A6 - interfejs SATA 6 Gb/s, a czwórka - 64 MB pamięci podręcznej. Trzy terabajty pojemności są zrealizowane w nietypowy sposób. Zwykle największą pojemność buduje się z talerzy o najbardziej zagęszczonym zapisie, tymczasem wewnątrz napędu jest aż pięć krążków i dziesięć głowic. To daje gęstość nośnika 600 GB na talerz wobec 750 GB w czterotalerzowych rozwiązaniach konkurencji.
