High Failure Rate - No Advanced Replacement

Amazon Reviewer, Amazon
30 May 2012
  • Summary: Two out of 4 drives failed within a year and support refuses requests for advanced replacement even with a credit card. On their website every utility download states it does not work for 3TB or greater drives so you cannot stress test or change settings. Will never buy another HGST drive. I might consider it if they start offering advanced replacement. Intellipower WD drive reviews are terrible but at least they offer advanced replacement.

DOA after clicking for about 2 days

Alex, Amazon
15 April 2012
  • Summary: Yes, I read the other reviews (on this and other sites) and I thought it wouldn't happen to me, but it did. Right after I plugged in the drive, it started clicking. But not the typical clicking of the head loading over and over again. It... well, it sounded like there was a woodpecker inside the drive. There was a very audible loud click, in a very irregular, random pattern. It was really annoying. I did a full surface scan and added it to my DrivePool.

This one worked, others have high failure rate

Med A, Amazon
5 July 2011
  • Summary: Although I have used Hitachi HDDS before, these 3TB greens are not good or more precisely don't have the quality control that their predecessors have had. Although this particular HD worked, I had bought few more from another vendor to use in a RAID5 and these had over 50 percent failure rate (DOA/failure within 48 hours). Not good at all and wasted a lot of time. Ended using WDC greens in my array after tiring of RMA'ing dead drives to the vendor.
