Hitachi Ultrastar 7K4000 4TB Review

maximum pc
13 February 2013
  • Excerpt: The Hitachi Ultrastar 7K4000 4TB made its first appearance on Maximum PC back in September 2012, when a gaggle of them debuted in the Dream Machine . At the time, they were the only 7,200rpm 4TB drives available, so they fit right in among all the other expensive and hard-to-find components. Now that the dust has settled and the 7K4000 has some company, we decided to put it on the test bench to see how it fares against its only rival in the 4TB category.
  • Pros: Huge capacity; fast, super-long MTBF.
  • Cons: Totally overpriced; not the best performance in its class.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 4TB review

14 December 2012
  • Excerpt: Hitachi's storage division has been bought by Western Digital, but currently still exists independently. That's good news, as the Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 4TB hard disk is the best high-capacity hard disk. It's worth noting that, if you install it in a PC, Windows will split it into two NTFS partitions of 2048GB and 1678GB. If you're running another OS, such as Linux, or install the disk in a NAS, alternative file systems should be able to handle the entire disk.

3 May 2012
