Summary: 14 months ago, I purchased an Iomega 1TB external hard-drive, even though many, many reviewers suggested a higher than average failure rate for external drives. In 30 yrs. I had never had a hard-drive crash on me, so I thought they might be over-reacting or just unlucky. Low and behold, exactly 364 days after I bought it - 1 day before the warranty ended - it crashed. Big time. So now I've purchased an internal 1TB Hitachi drive.
Summary: I purchased this about a month ago for use as a back-up drive. It's the same as the HDD that came with my computer. It was easy to install and it works perfectly so far. . I have not experienced the clicking noise that some have complained about. I am satisfied wiith my HDS721010CLA332 and would recommend it to others.
Summary: I have this drive. But it was not purchased through Tiger Direct, so this review does not address that vendor. I might have given this drive five stars, but since I have had it installed for less than 24 hours, I cannot rate the long term reliability of the drive. Pro: Retail box with 18" sata cable and mounting screws included. Also booklet with instructions for those who need it. Good size drive for the money I gave for it. Good performance.
Summary: This drive was quite loud when I installed it, but that was because AAM was turned off and the value was locked at the loudest setting. Once I changed it to the quiet setting with the Hitachi Feature Tool, it worked much quieter. Pros: - This is a very fast drive. I got transfer rate of 135MB/s at the outer edge of the disk, dropping off to around 65MB/s at the inner tracks - Very quiet once the AAM is enabled and set to the quiet value - It is a 2-platter design, which...
Summary: I allowed the Q&A to confuse me, and believed this was retail packaging, meaning it had cables included. It did not. So I ordered a cable set. . . delaying my install by a week. But once installed, the drive is quiet, fast, and worked flawlessly. It was recognized immediately on boot-up and my Window XP machine formated it without issue.
Great for Performance computers, not so much for HTPC (OOB anyways)

Summary: Fantastic drive for the price, cheaper here than other retailers. One small problem - The noise. Its fine if you have a performance computer, but not so much if you have a HTPC. Now this doesnt bug me much in my HTPC. And I don't really feel like running the tool mentioned in other reviews (I forget what its called). 1tb is more than enough for me. If I want more, I'll probably buy another one of these. Its actually pretty speedy for me coming from my laptop with an SSD.
Summary: This HDD is exactly what I needed to replace my old HDD on my Dell C521. The increased capacity over my 80GB is obviously appreciated. In reference to the how "noisy" this drive is: I can notice that the drive has a different sound coming from it as compared to my OEM drive, specially when starting up an application with WinXP.
Summary: While looking for an external hard drive to use as backup for my desktop, I ran across this one on sale. The size is good it looks rather spiffy. My only complaint is the speed. I backed up my entire system and it took quite a while for this to process but I had a lot of songs and several videos to go along with a couple thousand digital photos. All in all it works adequately. I mean, I wanted a backup file and it certainly does this so I rate it 4 stars.
