BE FOREWARNED ABOUT FIRMWARE UPDATE!

Colin S., Newegg
2 July 2013
  • Summary: this is easily fixed by going to their website and downloading and installing new firmware.
  • Pros: this drive is fast! and crucial does provide firmware updates. i've been nothing but happy with this SSD since i got it.
  • Cons: here's the problem. i've read a few newegg reviews and i'd like to confirm what has been said. this drive does have a 5000 hour rule...meaning after about 5000 hrs it will stop working/have lots of issues. i just talked with crucial's online chat tech support and they confirmed this fact.

  • Summary: Windows 8 boots and shuts down in 1-2 seconds. BIOS POST takes longer than Windows to start up.
  • Pros: Extremely fast boot, shutdown, and application load times compared to previous HDD (WD1001FALS).
  • Cons: Doesn't come with 3.5 in mounting brackets.

  • Summary: My 7 year old hard drive was starting to get noisy. Thinking it would go any-day, I ordered the Crucial SSD drive from Walmart.com for $194. The only problem I had was my low profile desktop didn't have an extra SATA power connector to connect the new drive. An online search took me to Buy.com where they had the SATA cable kit with Apricorn cloning software for $21. Crucial recommends Apricorn for the data transfer. The cloning took 1 hour and 10 minutes.

  • Summary: If you plan to put this or any other SSD Drive in your Laptop or Ultra Note Book. Beware that most Laptop can handle up to 9 mm in height your Ultra Note Books are limit to 7 mm So before you buy any of these drive make sure it will fit. If you can't find a listing in mm here go to the Manufacturer Web Site as they list them in metric As far as Desktop most SSD Drive come with a tray so the 2.5" drive will work in you 3.5" drive bay.
