  • Excerpt: Corsair was the first to send us a retail SF-1200 controlled SSD, the Corsair F100 100GB . That was quite an exciting moment for us since we had already tested two early pre-production SF-1500 enterprise drives. We knew that SandForce's consumer controller was very similar to the enterprise controller and that for desktop tasks performance would be about the same.

  • Summary: SSDs sind leider immer noch recht teuer und können daher sehr selten alle Festplatten in einem System ersetzen. Denkt man daher über die Anschaffung einer (kleinen) SSD nach, muss man sich überlegen, welche Daten auf dem schnellen Halbleiterspeicher abgelegt werden sollen und welche man einer herkömmlichen Festplatte anvertraut.
  • Pros: In dieser Kapazitätsklasse: Hohe Sequenzielle Schreibrate, Sehr hohe Schreibrate bei kleinen Blöcken
  • Cons: Sequenzielle Leserate könnte höher sein

  • Summary: Laufwerke mit SandForce-Controller sind ohne Frage sehr interessant. Besonders bei der Schreibleistung können sie punkten, denn sie ist schon bei inkompressiblen Daten sehr ordentlich und steigt weiter, je stärker der Controller die Daten komprimieren kann. Das kommt direkt auch der Haltbarkeit des Flash-Speichers zugute, denn weniger schreiben bedeutet, dass weniger der endlich vielen Schreib-/Löschzyklen aufgebraucht werden.
