Creeping death in a SSD
IOAN R., Newegg
21 September 2015
Pros: It's small
Cons: This SSD never actually died. What it did was regularly and viciously corrupt files so that I never had a day's peace while my windows installation was on it. Other than having to reinstall the OS every week it's a great buy.
Sudden drive failure x 2 & poor warranty support from Corsair
StefanL "propofol", Amazon
7 November 2014
Summary: Failed after 2 years. This was replaced under warranty by Corsair with a refurbished drive. The replaced drive has just failed as well with read errors. Interestingly enough these drives does not seem to support testing with smartctl.
Summary: Bought the drive on June 10th 2010 and it died on July 11th 2013. Per Corsair it has a 3 year warranty, not 2 year like the Amazon site says. It was not bad while it lasted, but it shouldn't die right after the warranty ends.
Summary: I have similar issues with other corsair thumbdrive products, namely usb 3.0 drives. The hassle and loss of data is too much, so I will be filtering out any corsair products from this day forward when im in the market for new equipment again.
Pros: Speed is nice
Cons: I bought 6 of these. After 6 months - One no longer is seen by the BIOS. 2 have bad blocks all over the place. And another is dead slow. So 4 out of 6 are useless. I have verified this on several other computers.
Summary: My 'luck' with hdd's is abysmal. I have a 75%+ fail rate on drives under 1 yr. They sit in desktops and don't move. I was really looking forward to a drive with little room for mechanical failure.
Pros: Fast enough. Was a good drive for a little more then 9 months.
Cons: Died fast. I am so sick of harddrives in general. This one only lasted 9+ months. I had hoped for much better off a SSD.
Summary: I bought two of these SSDs and both have gone bad within a year and a half. Sent the first back as an RMA and Corsair sent me a "Refurbished" replacement which promptly failed upon trying to format it... As I cannot afford to waste anymore time with Corsair I have recently purchased Mushkin SSDs.
Summary: I wish it was possible to give less than 1 star, because any hard drive that dies within a year deserves NO stars. Unlike any other hardware that can go out on a PC, a dead hard drive is the absolute WORST thing that can happen because every single important data is lost forever!!!
