Summary: I was in the process of figuring out a new set of heads for my drum set. I wanted something that produced less of an echo and more of a dull thud. Rather than get new heads, I invested in this Moongel. It turned out to be exactly what I needed. So rather than buying new heads, I just plopped these $5 resonance pads on and presto! My dreams came true ;) Good product, great price, and quick service. 5 stars.
Summary: I Don't know what I would do without this product. My floor toms ring more than my rack toms, this brings them into balance. My Ride cymbal isn't "dry" enough, (Zildjian Earth Ride 22"), This quiets it down just enough without losing the 'ping'. My cheap ZBT crash is usually too bright and fast compared to the other cymbals and this solves that too quite a bit. I just started playing and gigging again after 20+ years, and I'm glad to have found this product.
Summary: I have been recording drums for 10+ years professionally and nothing beats Moongels when you need to get the attack and tone of a snare or tom focused. I have tried the old tape trick where you leave a flap sticking up, I have tried the really thin rings... nothing comes close. The tape is ok but can kill off too much of the tone of the drum. The rings are basically useless because when the drum is hit, the ring vibrates about on the head, basically floating on it.
Summary: They work brilliantly for eliminating nasty overtones when you play, especially for snares. But my kit is by my window and after leaving them on there for about 2 weeks, they had bleached pink by the sun and had become weirdly overly-sticky. They still work fine but leave residue on my heads which can be a hassle to clean up. My advice is to take them off your kit and reapply them every time you sit down to play.
Summary: I can't test these out yet, so can't give feedback on them working or not. I can give feedback to say they are tiny and not quite what I expected. Will have to let you know how they perform after Christmas, but I am a little doubtful!
