Bad Purchase...

david antepara "davico", amazon.com
28 December 2011
  • Summary: I really thought that it was going to be a good improvement for my 22" kick drum as it was advertised, but it was a total fiasco...If you hit your bass drum really hard this thing doesn't stays tight, it goes on the loose. I was on a live gig and i've had to take it out because it became a real problem...Too much money for a piece of plastic that doesn't work well...One star is too much for this item.

MAKE YOUR BASS DRUM SOUND OBSESE!

D. Lang "T.B. Player", amazon.com
16 December 2011
  • Summary: Got this for the drummer in our band ([...]) and we couldn't be happier! For smaller gigs when we don't mic the kit, it gives the bass drum that extra KICK to keep up with the guitards! When we do mic the kit, it serves as a perfect port for the bass drum mic. BTW...the logo sticker peels off easier if you don't like having logos on your drumhead.

Noticeable Improvment

Paul Colton, amazon.com
14 October 2011
  • Summary: I just got this yesterday, and installed it on the basswood cheapie kit I have in the basement (22x20 bass drum, Evans EMAD batter and reso) and practice on. The increase in attack and volume is noticeable. I removed the EMAD from the resonant side, enlarged the port hole and installed per instructions. [except unless you have tiny chimp hands, ignore the part about reaching through the port to move the rubber flange into position.

Make your drum sound OBESE!

Shaun, amazon.com
5 October 2011
  • Summary: It works. Enough said. Now you don't have to read the rest if you don't want to. I had been looking at this for about a year and finally bought it. Simply, it gives the drum more punch which is amazing. It's lower and doesn't resonate as long, which sounds fantastic when you're playing the set acoustic. The drum will sound even better through a mic like if you're at a live show or recording. The chrome color looks very slick on my all black drumset.

Sounds good, stupid design

Jeff Robinson, amazon.com
1 March 2011
  • Summary: I'm in the middle of pre-production for a band and had heard about this item. A drummer I know had used one of these and it's been on my list for the past year. I finally picked one up at Guitar Center. In the studio, I've had the experience of duct-taping around the lip of the hole in the front of a bass drum and noticed the improved tone through creating a more substantial hole for the air to exit the drum.

KickPort Bass Drum Port

'Dougie' Douglas, amazon.co.uk
1 January 2012
  • Summary: An excellent product and far more durable than the expensive felt pad alternative. Very easy to fit and tuning the head still remains easy. Also strong enough to allow you to physically reach in to adjust dampening, but more importantly, if not using a mic stand, allows the lead to rest on the rim without affecting the tuning. You see far more of these used professionally these days, and for good reason.
