Summary: This is the best home ice machine on the market. I have had 4. However, it runs very hot and almost non-stop. The problem is that this machine will BURN OUT in 2-3 years. The compressor runs so hot it will die, and you will be faced with a $750 repair bill. However, if you vent this well so it gets air flow from front and behind, it will last for 10 years. I was able to cut a hole in the wall behind this and install a 6" x8" vent, and it works well.
Summary: I owed a Kenmore Ice Maker that lasted fourteen years. When it went bad i purchased another one that was still making ice when i built my new house and that was about eight years after it was installed. I purchased all Kitchen Aid applicances for my new home. In six years i've had to have the ice maker service people come out three times. Now i'm told that it will cost me eight hundred dollars to repair the ice maker so it will make ice again.
Summary: "I have owned several of these ice makers over the years. I strongly recommend the extended warranty as the nature of the "beast" is that they tend to have maintenance problems particularly if you have hard water. The folks at Appliances Connection helped get the appliance to me when NO ONE for hundreds of miles could be of any help. Not Sears, Not Lowes not any appliance store. They truly rescued me as I had a group of 27 guests arriving and my ice maker was dead.
