Summary: The overheating, shutdown thing just happened to me as well this week. From what I gather, it's a lost cause at this point. But even before that, there were problems . . .the amp wasn't especially strong, it wouldn't play some CD's, and forget about picture discs.
Summary: Well, this unit was great until it died. Now, like a majority of people who have reviewed this, I am having the exact same problem. I turn it on, it's good for a few moments, (usually less than a minute), and then I hear some thumping from the Sub and deadsies.
Summary: Failed out of box. Talked retail seller into a swap (normally wait forever from a "Qualified Service Dealer"). Failed a year later (boxed most of that year). Over heating caused shut down. Reviews on web indicate this is a common problem.
Summary: Originally, I thought this innexpensive and somewhat under-powered audio-video system did an almost adequate job for the price, but 2 months after buying it, our unit started to give us trouble when inserting slightly scratched DVDs.
Summary: Lesson learned with this item? Always buy a service plan. I bought this DVD/VCR home theatre in December 04 and Right after the warranty went out in May 05 of course the entire system broke down.
Summary: Has sensitive tuner and separate inputs for tv and radio. This is a good thing because my cable tv provider has dropped FM radio so I use a separate antenna for the radio. I planned to use only 2 preexisting (built-in) speakers even though the system supports 5/1.
Summary: When we bought our new bigscreen TV, we shot our budget on the TV itself, and then were disappointed in the sound it produced. I checked at Best Buy, at Circuit City, and at Target, but found Amazon to offer the best value for this product, which seemed to suit my needs very well.
Summary: I had the same power problem as everyone else here is the letter I sent to Zenith. Last year in April 2005 I purchased the zenith XBS444 home theater system, almost immediately it started intermittantly turning itself off, the problem went away for a time and then almost the minute the warranty...
Summary: I bought the Zenith XBS444 and spent the afternoon hiding wires. But when I finally connected it all and turned it on, it worked great for about 5 minutes, then shut down. I could only turn it on again after 20-30 minutes, then it would shut down again...
