Summary: Got this on the gold box special for $149.99. It's a good deal for that price. I had to remove the stands because the speaker was too tall and blocked the signals on my Samsung tv making the remote unusable. No problem there. I ordered the Yamaha YAS-101 but the YAS-101BL arrived. Not sure if it's a newer or older model. The latest reviews were from July, 2012.
OK with a couple of issues - caution if you own a Samsung tv

Summary: Overall this is ok, the sound is much better than the stock speakers in my Samsung tv and hookup was very easy. I had read reviews of other sound bars about the display on the front being bright and distracting; the led points on the front of this unit are not distracting at all. Here are the things that I don't like as much.
Better than original speakers but short of wonderous.

Summary: The soundbar was purchased because of the "clear voice" application which was supposed to clarify voices for slight hard of hearing persons. The soundbar is a little better than the TV's original speakers but does not work any miracles. I would not purchase this unit again but I felt it was worth the chance.I am not degrading the unit but I am still looking for a better solution. If you get it at the right price it is worth trying.
Summary: The sound bar didn't improve the sound that much from the TV speakers on satellite programing to warrant the cost of the sound bar. There was more of an improvement in the sound with movies on the DVD though.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Interfaces Well With TV
Summary: The sound is fairly good. It is better than what is on the TV. Based on reviews, I thought the sound would be pretty spectacular despite it did not have a seperate speaker for surround sound. It is just okay. Clear sound and it looks nice.
Summary: Bought this item a few days ago at Costco to try and improve upon anemic TV sound (Insignia 42" HD LCD) and also declutter the front room with five separate speakers all over the place. The unit (which appears quite similar to the YAS101) was well-packaged, the instructions were easy to follow, and the set-up was quick.
Summary: I bought this sound bar to replace a vizio sound bar that stopped working after about 2 years of sporatic use. I already have a nice Polk Audio powered subwoofer so I was looking soley for an upgraded sound bar (made with a little more quality than the Vizio)without the subwoofer. Pros: - I like the quality of the remote. It is not one of those watch battery / 3-foot range tiny remotes. It actually used aaa batteries and has a nice feel.
Summary: The sound quality from my rather expensive Philips TV is excellent, but at a mere 2 x 4 wats the amplifier isn't up to dealing with very low sound input. So I bought a soundbar for when this would necessary. The listing experience was way below that of the TV for general usage, however I was pleasantly surprised when listening to a football match how much more real the crowd sounded, a completely new dimension.
Summary: The Yamaha YAS-101 is probably a good budget sound bar but the sound isn't much better than what I get from an older 40 inch Sony Bravia TV. Maybe the older TV's have better speakers? I needed something after my 5-year old Polk Audio sound bar crapped out and Polk Audio told me they no longer made parts for or serviced it. Can you believe it? Anyways, I ended up returning the YAS-101 and paying more to get a Denon DHT-S514 sound bar that I'm very pleased with.
Summary: I'm slightly disappointed but not necessarily surprised that the 'surround' capabilities of this unit are virtually none. For the price, I'm not sure what I really expected. If you have a pair of stereo speakers connected to your television, there is no point buying this. However, if you don't and you want something neat and tidy that will far exceed the speakers on your telly, this is for you. One thing I have to commend Yamaha on is the build quality of the unit.
