Summary: I ordered this from Amazon based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews that people seem to give this system. I'm not an audiophile, so I figured I had hit the jackpot with the money to sound quality ratio on this system. It was, first, smaller than I had expected (except the sub-woofer.) But there's no-one to blame but myself for that, as the measurements are easy to find on the product page. But the plastic cabinets on the speakers were also a bit of a surprise.
Summary: I bought a Toshiba LCD HDTV around Christmas. Adding these speakers with an Onkyo 5.1 receiver have made a great setup. We have a large living room and the speakers sound great, especially with movies. I used 16 gauge speaker wire to hook them up. Radio Shack has a 100 foot roll for $20. I used Tripp Lite optical audio cables from Amazon to hook up the DVD player and the cable box. I used a Belkin subwoofer cable from Amazon.
Summary: I bought these speakers to go with an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver. The viewing area for my home theater in the living room is about 10 x 15 and they sound great. I'm no audiophile, so I'm sure there's better out there, but for the price, I don't think this package can be beat. Especially if you need something for a small area.
Summary: The sound is awesome! You don't need to buy a Yamaha Dock to play your IPOD. Use the Phono hookup (where you would hook up a turntable). This system is easy to assemble and has fantastic surround sound! Unlike others that can make the MP3/Ipod music sound muffled, you would think a crisp CD is playing.
Summary: I had my doubts from previous reviews but, I am really happy with my purchase of the yamaha system. The bass is beyond amazing, the sound is crisp and clear, and everything was shipped not only ontime, but a little early. Overall I feel I got one helluva deal.
Summary: The speakers were well worth the money. I use them in my bedroom (20 x 16'), and hooked them up with an Onkyo mid range receiver, and they more than adequately perform. I actually switched the center speaker with the one I was using with my downstairs system (also Yamahas), and it really adds to the fullness of the system. I have always trusted Yamaha equipment, and I bought these on trust that they would perform. They do.
Summary: Hard to believe you can get this kind of sound for less than two-hundred bucks. I can't say anything bad about this product. I can not compare it to others, except for the large speaker system that it replaced (full size Infinity's that rotted apart.) Don't feel you have to spend 100 to 200 dollars more to get better sound, you will be dissapointed. Remember, they can only sound as good as the amp you are going to power them with.
Summary: After reading the reviews I knew that these would satisfy my needs. Well, my "need" was the Super Bowl and my TV needed more "oomph". I liked the price point and just about every other speaker system I saw advertised came with a DVD player! Those other speaker systems were quite limited in their design in that they either: used proprietary plugs, were hardwired, or felt flimsy.
