Summary: The HT-XT1 is a good product and produces high quality sound. It's obviously a 1st generation product as it has these flaws - The remote control is awful. It's the worst I've ever used. It a long, thin rectangular device that's very hard to use. Why? The controls are flush mounted and have hard to read inscriptions. I suspect that they will rub off in time. A traditional remotel would have been far better. Shame on Sony for designing this control.
1 system is fine for a 16X32 foot family room/kitchen combo space

Summary: Really, I had a JVC 5.1 system before that went kaput. I never could play that system that loud, without bothering the neighbors or my wife. This 2.1 system is fine for a 16X32 foot family room/kitchen combo space. Still cannot really crank it up as I would like, but who does. Movie sound effects are acceptably clear & loud.
Summary: Our kitchen opens up into another room that we call the sun room because it's bright and we can see the backyard (~14x14 feet). I bought the Sony HT-XT1 sound stand for our 42-inch TV in that room. I'm very pleased with the purchase. The speakers bring out the special effects and various sounds in movies and regular TV programming that we watch in that room. The volume and bass are more than enough for such size room.
