Review Summary

Sony is known for its higher end consumer electronics. The Sony HT-DDW790 5.1 home theater system makes its entry at a very low cost. This unit is very basic and comes with a full size receiver that has only a few inputs, 6 speakers with wire, and a remote control. At the back there are only 2 digital inputs and 3 stereo analogue pairs. There are AM/FM antenna inputs and speaker spring clip connectors, but that is mostly what exists. However it shouldn't be a concern for people who just want to get surround sound without all the advanced features that other models provide. The included speakers are quite small, but the sound is clear. They are certainly better than average TV speakers. If the volume is too high the sound can be harsh. The included subwoofer includes an 8“ passive driver with a good mid-bass sound to it and is fairly compact. The Sony DDW790 has a few good mechanisms with the ability to add the components you want and later upgrade the speakers. The receiver is quite bulky and heavy though it lacks so many features like multiple inputs, video switching, analog RCA inputs, etc. A buyer said that the Sony HT-DDW790 5.1 home theater is a decent surround system. He installed it to the HD-DVD player in his master bedroom and watched ‘Transformers’. He said that the room shook during the bass scenes and he enjoyed the sound and is highly satisfied of his buy. This Sony HT-DDW790 5.1 channel home cinema system with 800W total power output HDMI for high quality digital sound and picture, Digital Cinema Auto Cariblation automatic sound optimisation and AV Sync for perfect sound and image synchronisation with flat panel TV, easy connectivity with potable audio devices with improved sound quality can be considered as worth buying.
