Summary: After quite a bit of time and research to set this unit up, I had everything working perfectly with the connections, and sound bar, but the sub woofer was not able to power on, which was the last step. Had to spend a great deal of time arguing with Sony that a brand new product (1 week under the Christmas tree) was not something that I should have to pay to have repaired, or even shipped at my expense to a Sony service center.
Summary: I am reviewing this product as well as Sony's customer service. I purchased this item on November 5, 2012. It quit working on December 19, 2012. It worked great when we initially bought it and connected it to our Panasonic TV and Panasonic Blu-Ray player. The sound was better than we expected from a sound bar in that price range and we were satisfied with our purchase. We used it to watch TV and occasional movies and to listen to music through the Roku player.
Summary: It arrived with the face plate already falling off. The remote looks like it's got tons of settings only the amp button, direction controls, VOL, & field actually function. the rest is totally awsome if you bought a sony whatchamacallit. Truthfully, I have logitec pc speakers that out performed it and it is non-stop with working with the sound levels for each thing you watch. I'm online now ordering a completely different system.
Summary: Purchased this unit (the first one) June 1st, 2012. I had intended on using it as a replacement for my 5.1 gaming system, as the square footage required to actually set up a 5.1 was simply inconvenient and bothersome. I routed all audio to the included receiver through my Creative Titanium HD sound card, and to be fair, once I got all the settings correct (switch receiver setting to 'TV', and the treble and bass to my satisfaction) and attained the required cables...
Summary: I purchased this item having great experience with Sony products over the years. I was excited when it arrived early and immediately installed it. Then the trouble hit. First off, I must note that I am an audiophile and a pro audio specialist, and as such I have very high standards for a sound system. Truthfully, this system sounds the same as my TV speakers plus a subwoofer.
Summary: The Sony HTCT550W has many features you want in a home theater sound system that others have written about in their reviews. I have read them at Amazon on well as other websites. The feature that made me return this unit is the sound quality; it is inferior. I wanted to like this system. I listened to movies, TV, different genres of music and it all sounds just like a TV set or a low end car stereo.
Summary: This is a dumb product with very limited placement of the Sub Woofer. The Sub woofer had to be placed in front for the remote access in able to control turning on and off including controlling the volume (for non Sony TV). If you like multiple remotes then this product is for you. No WIFI, 3D sound is non existence, sub woofer sound is something that you can only experience if you put the volume way up. Waste of money in my opinion.

Summary: I had purchased a SONY HD TV for my parents for their anniversary, and as expected, the sound quality coming from the T.V. was totally unacceptable. I decided to purchase a Sound Bar for them to compensate for the lack of sound emanating from the T.V. I bought the HTCT550W mainly for 3 reasons. #1. Sony's reputation #2. Wireless sub-woofer #3.
Summary: I read all the reviews on the products and this one has the smallest ratio of good to bad comments. Ergo, I figured I had the best shot with these "speakers". I had reasoned out to myself that the negative reviews probably stemmed from user incompetence (not knowing what types of cables / devices would cause compatibility issues). Alas, this is not the case. This system sounds exactly like what it is; puny speakers in a little plastic box just squawking away.
